Does anyone else really like old classic multitools? Like the Leatherman PST and such? For example, my favorite multitool is the Leatherman Mini-tool. I know it's essentially obsolete, it doesn't have many features and is heavy by todays standards, but I love it.

I love my beater PST, always rides along when the job is likely to get dirty.

So, yes, I like the old-school-tools.

I just turned in a Gerber legend USA made. I hope they give me a USA back. I told them I do not want a china one. I bought a USA and that is what I want returned to me.

I still use my Leatherman Supertool. Just sharpened up the wirecutters on it and the blades. Sure it get gouges out of the screwdrivers, a little too much wobble in the pliers at time, but the old girl still works fine. Been in use since 1997 and held up really fine. It also much slimmer and easier to handle then the later supertools.

 + 1. Frankly, the main reason I went to a Charge TTi from my original Super Tool was one hand opening. It was enough of a functional upgrade to justify replacing the ST after 9 years of EDC with it, rain or shine. It went to a good friend and I moved on, but eventually missed the extra heft and fixed implements, so I replaced the ST with its then successor, a Core, which comes along when I expect hard use or don't want to mess with detachable (losable) parts.

Although I don't regret switching to a Charge and like the Core well enough, I have always felt that with the original Super Tool, Leatherman got it right. If they had never introduced another model, I would happily have kept using that one.

I love running into old slip-joints with added tools. I prefer to carry a SAK, but some of the stuff out there is pretty neat. For example I have one that includes all the tools a pipe smoker needs(except matches), plus a spear blade. Not useful to me, but I love the concept.

My PST has been my primary multitool since I picked it up in a lot buy with about 20 other multitools from TSA on ebay for 19 bucks. It's so manual and utilitarian it's hard not to love.

I also carry a PST everyday. Never did care for the leather sheath, though, so I use an A.G. Russell small nylon pouch, which fits the PST just right.

I carry a PST that my dad has been using since 1994 and it still works great. I like the more industrial look of the older multi-tools.

Yep, I have two "retired" tools - an old PST and a Gerber Multiplier black they have both been around the block a few times and their replacements are still a bit tight and shiny but with time - maybeee.....
Peace
Revvie!

My favorite was the BUCKTOOL

And my second is a black Gerber Multi-Plier 600 Tool

Both made in the USA, of course!

Use my PST all the time... love it. Also use my Bucktool quite often. Neither is my EDC MT, but both are close at hand at and given time. :)

Here's my Mini-Tool, I must admit, with the can opener, the bottle opener is a bit redundant, but the handle extension idea is so cool. I carefully ground the end of the screwdriver down to be a flat phillips like the Micra, because I find phillips more useful. And I keep that little clip-point blade shaving sharp! :D

My father's old American made Schrade Tough Tool is around here somewhere.

It's interesting to compare it to my Vic Spirit.

The Tough Took is huge, bulky, crude, and seemingly indestructible. My father has darn near worn it out, and it looks the part. It's really a neat tool, though. I wonder what it might have evolved to if Schrade hadn't gone bankrupt.

It'll probably go in a glass case of family heirlooms one of these days.

one of mine too, btw.
knocking down the handle length to fit in a full-sized needle nosed pliers was simply a great idea,
often wondered why the other unflattering components of the mini-tool were never remodelled.
it sure does look like something from an old spy movie though!

I love my LM Pulse. top quality multi tool. Modern LM's like Kick, Blast etc do not IMHO live upto my Pulses quality... but I am not sure if Leatherman Pulse qualifies as classic tool... :)
