Any love for combo edges?

The only time I like a combo edge is when it's done on a recurve blade.Where the serrations are in the recurve.Otherwise I always prefer plain edge for ease of sharpening.

Well, I just ordered another combo edge, this time a foilage green Endura 4. To be honest, the CE wasn't my first preference, but it was the only foilage green option and the price was good. This makes three CEs I'll have now, to join my CE Endura 3 (black FRN) and Tenacious.

If you use a sharpmaker and touch up the edge frequently serrations are amazingly easy to keep sharp. The serrations on my ce millie get used every day @ work and are still as sharp as they were when new. It just takes a few passes on the sharpmaker/strop and the serrations are back to push cutting receipt paper.

+1
This is exactly what I do.

Like so many others here, call me old school. First choice PE, then SE. Don't really like CE, but I have a few Spydies with CE cause i couldn't get anything else at the time.

I guess there are things a CE or SE are good for, I just don't do any of them. Give me plain or nothing please.

All or nothing here. I like Spyderco's fully serrated offerings, but I'm not really a fan of CE knives. I don't like the way they look, and I don't find them to have any real advantage over a sharp PE blade. It bugs me that most sporting goods stores only seem to carry the CE version of popular knives.

I use CE knives on outdoor activities, mostly for camping. I find them practical and useful in that setting, but not for EDC. The blade has to be long enough for the CE to work. Usually, it's an Endura.

I guess it depends on the design. In some cases, the knife and the serrations simply don't match but a CE has its usefulness. I wish Spyderco makes a CE version of the Salt (love those linerless handles).

IMHO, CE knives only work best with blades of at least 4" in length, as in the Military. The Millie is the only knife that I would carry or use with the ComboEdge...:D

received a large sebenza combo edge a few days ago. have a couple other brand knives with this edge but wasn't really into combo edges until this one. something about the design of the serrations that is interesting, can't wait to use them to cut something. thought the blade would be exchanged at first but now it is a keeper

i have had 2 crkt m16s with a combo edge, i liked them a lot, though i didnt use the serrations a lot. with that in mind, when i bought my new carry knife (benchmade 580) it has a plain edge and works great for me

Since starting this thread my opinions of combo edges have drifted somewhat negative. I own three combo edges, an Endura 3, a Tenacious, and an Endura 4 Foilage Green. The foliage green Endura 4 was purchased because that one was only made in CE and I like the color. The Tenacious CE and the Endura 3 were purchased in CE because I got the CE at a significant discount to a PE.

My conclusion is that on larger blades, particularly the Enduras, you have enough SE and enough PE to be able to use the blade in the real world. For most slicing, I would still slightly prefer a PE. But because the blades are bigger, it doesn't make the CE a bad daily carry. For anything smaller, I'd prefer plain old PE or SE. I'm kind of sorry I didn't spend a few extra bucks on the Tenacious in PE, actually.

As they stand, I have no use for them. What I'd like to see is a 50/50 serrated blade where the serrations were at the front of the blade. That might prove useful to me.

Long time ago, Spyderco made a few CE Police models with the serrations near the tip. I think Hamonoichiba may still have a couple in stock.

As an alternative there is always Chad's Direkt knife:

too bad is not a spydie :(
