What are your thoughts on Northwoods knives? There are a few I have been drooling over and I was thinking of pulling the trigger. I have had GEC and Case so far for my tradional experience.

I've been drooling over one for quite some time also, i also would like to know people's thoughts on these.

Don't think Northwoods makes any of their own knives anymore. Queen or GEC, so why pay for the middle man?

I have had some Queen made Northwoods that were a step above standard Queen materials and quality. Excellent knives if you ask me.

I have a couple of Queen-made Northwoods knives; a large stockman (like Queen's #49 Cattle King) and a folding hunter. Just like the Queen equivalents in pattern, D2 steel, fit and finish. BUT, the 'middle man' in this case also adds embellishments, like stag handles and unique NW shields (arrow head) that otherwise wouldn't be found on the Queen versions. No blade etches on the NW versions either. Mine are in stag.

I have the 2008 Traditional Forums Northwoods Medium Stockman, I carry carry it all the time, the only issue I had was that they burnt the tips on the blades while sharpenin' it, other than that, it's one of my favorites.

I remember one pattern they made with CPM-S60V steel in the blades. D2 is great, but it ain't S60V!

I have two of their fixed blades, a Special Drop Point and a Bird and Trout. They haven't been made for several years, but they are beautiful knives with an excellent level of finish. Very affordable too, from my memory.

I have been through Queens and GECs lineup quite a few times. Northwoods has a few that are just different either with the size, handle material, blade steel or just the quantity of blades the knife has. I think I'm going to take the plunge soon. I'm sure I will have some pics up next week sometime.

I have one of the Scagels. It's a stout knife and brings a smile to my face whenever I hold it.

Yes, good choice and it has the famed arrow shield as well. Like mine a lot.

Weren't there some GEC 25s released recently as Northwoods with a sabre grind?

Couldn't take it any longer. Just ordered a Bullet Jack with smooth bone and an Indian River Jack with cocobolo.

Agreed. My Queen-made Northwoods Whittler, which doesn't resemble any Queen I've ever seen in terms of pattern, materials or finish, all of which are top-notch:

Yep! There is a thread about them here.

I opted for the more rustic look of the bone version, but the cocobolo and stag renditions are elegant indeed.

I like what Derrick Bohn (who now owns rights to the Northwoods name) and GEC did for all of them-- the enhancements including the sabre grind, the "unfinished" spine and tang area of the blade, Northwoods blade stamp, a single 'USA' tang stamp (there are no other markings on the knife), and of course the arrow shield. Also, each knife is packaged in a leather sheath instead of the standard GEC tube. I have a quiver full of #25s, but all these new details added up to a knife I was eager to place in their company.

I have two Dogwoods, a stag muskrat and two of the new Bullets. All are a cut above, the Bullets are top notch and there is always a Dogwood in my pocket. The stag Dogwood has got to be one of the nicest small folders I have seen.

Many Northwoods beauties coming out of the woodwork!

Must stay strong. Cannot but another knife right now.
...:D

I've somehow managed to miss this thread previously. Great-looking knives. Like the sheath package too. Shame to hear about the burnt tips on the 2008 Traditional Forums knife though.
