It seems to me that most (all?) of the interest here is with folding single-blade locking knives or fixed blades. Is there anyone who loves Swiss Army knives? I'm pondering getting a new one after remembering the one from childhood, now long lost.

Oh yes, most definitely. My 30 year old+ still seems brand new and sharp as a tack too. Do it.

most folks can't tell apart one swiss knife from another.
and sak fans end up buying tons looking for the right one to edc.
I wouldn't know if it's love
but swiss knives are certainly very bewitching.
who wouldn't be attracted to red gloss anyway??!

Love for SAK's?

Lets see, I', 80 years old. When I was 12, my dad gave me a Boy Scout knife. I carried that knife until I enlisted in the army after high school. Then the army issued me a very nice all stainless steel Camillus scout knife. The M-L-K-808 I think it was. I carried that for a few years. Then, stationed in Germany, I walked into a knife shop that was advertised by a giant red mechanical Swiss Army knife in the window. I walked out with a huntsman, and a pioneer. That was in 1969.

Since then, no matter what part of the world I was in, what job I was doing, Had a SAK in the pocket. Some other knives came and went, mostly went. I do have a long history with traditional pocket knives, but the SAK is the long term, end game winner. Its been a constant in my life, that I always return to. If I'm flying off to a vacation someplace, its a SAK that gets mailed to where we are staying.

My love of SAK's has been spread to my three kids, and four grandchildren. I've given away more classic SD's than I can remember as gateway gifts/drugs to sakdom. I view the little classic as the Gideons Bible of pocket knives. And I would never think of setting off on a road trip without my old war horse Wenger SI in my pocket.

After 52 years of carrying a SAk or two on me, I think I must love them. Thats a total of 68 years of carrying a pocket knife with some basic tools on it. I guess thats a strong habit to break.

A Wenger SI and a Gerber LST Magnum Jr. are what set me on the path (obsession 😉). I still have the SI.

My dad found it while fishing in Canada and gave it to me ~30 years ago.

My current selection is small. The SI, a Farmer, Recruit, several Classics, and I carry an older Mini Champ (pre-cap lifter) every day.

Someone in baggage at Delta felt that they needed my black Alox Cadet more than I did. I'll replace it someday. I really liked that one.
