Any love for the 422?

I mentioned in another post today, I found a few Buck knives at an antique mall yesterday. One of them was a 422. It is in pristine condition. It and the sheath look like they have never been used. As far as I can determine, this is one of the earlier models. I noticed the design change along the way but I think I like the look of this one. I normally like heavy pocket knives but I bet I could get used to this in my pocket when I'm going lite.

Any love for these? I'm sure there are a bunch out there. Are they a durable replacement for a 112?

Before the Slim Selects, there was the Bucklites ... Basically the same idea, a lighter, somewhat lower cost alternative to the 110 and the 112. Same excellent steel in the blades, same sizes as the 110 and 112.

Some folks loved them, some called them "Mattel Bucks" ...

Perfectly good products. If you like the grip, use and enjoy them.

If these early ones were made in the mid-80's would that have still been when they were using 425 steel instead of 420HC?

My very FIRST Buck was an OD 422 purchased at Service Merchandise, $11 or $12 sticks in my mind. A unique 1987 tang stamp. The sheath was never used as I carried it vertically in a back pocket next to the wallet. Now retired to my collection.

Wow, first Buck! That’s saying something after seeing all the amazing stuff in your collection. My 422 has a single dot date code. Any idea what year it might indicate?

Im a fan of them. I wore one on my belt in its camo velcro top sheath for a few of my teenage years. Great knives with a great sheath design imho.
My original is long gone but I’ve been lucky enough to find a couple for reasonable prices over the years. I also have a couple of 426’s I picked up for cheap back before prices started going up.

I was surprised by the sheath. I hadn't seen any like that before with an open top sealed with velcro. It is a neat design.

If you are itching for 422 ... Chicago Knife Works has the plain black 422s, maybe "New Old Stock", but still, BNIB, for ~ $17. The also have the 426 for the same price
sshh, don't tell people about my secret source. :) Just kidding. When I first became aware of them, it looked like a scam site to me. But I took a chance and ordered something. And it was OK. I ordered many things in the past from them.

I've bought things from CKW as well. Other than being S L O W to ship, I've had good success with them.
