I've had a rough summer with illness.Such a pain getting old!But i'm feeling good now and stumbled on a handful of Old USA made farrier or rasp knives.I annealed them twice to get the hardness out,ground them and re heat treated and tempered them.One massive Bowie and a nice size skinner.I love the rasp pattern that was left.Anybody else like a file knife?Let's see yours.

Good job! :thumbup::cool:

I don't have any of my own but I do like how they look! Maybe some day...

Gorgeous. I fooled around on my cousin's blacksmith forge just enough to have a layman's appreciation for the enormous work and skill that went into these. Congratulations on hard work and talent.

Here are a couple I made years ago.

Best regards

Thanks for the compliments and the links!Using annealed and known steel billets makes more sense,but these old files are a blast to repurpose.I've also well tested the edges and they hold up great!I want to take one to a buddy and get it Hardness tested.Im thinking it's 58+.

Anza is a cool, small, company IMHO. I really like their knives, and aim to acquire more. Not overpriced by any stretch. This one is ideal for an EDC fixed blade. Your's (Seals) looks very nifty, and have well thought out blade profiles.

I also have an Anza knife that my dad gifted to me years ago and that's the exact knife that started my addiction! I'll try to get a picture of it posted up later on today.

I've always wanted a Michael Morris

Me too! Most of his knives are very appealing to me especially the ones made from horse files, or rasps I believe they are called, like the one you posted up.

Few bucks from a guy not far from here. Found at a local gun show earlier this year. Supposed to be part of a altoids survival tin. Left the tin and contents on the table and only bought the knife. Need to zip tie the sheath to my car's emergency break actuator. Certainly nothing fancy. I like it.

Great little necker!I like it a lot!

Those turned out nice, Don! Sorry to hear you weren't feeling good, but I'm glad you're doing better now. I've always liked the look of file knives. There's just something about knives made from reused tool steel that appeals to me. I think that those made from old saw blades fall into a similar category.

This David Farmer knife was made from an old sawmill blade.

The only reason I don't own more fixed blade knives is that they are impractical for EDC around here. If I could get away with concealed (pocket) carry, I think a Morris PeeWee would fit the bill nicely.
