If any member lives in Atlanta and is willing to donate use of their dialup account for part of the weekend, we'd appreciate it.

The show is charging something like $200 for internet access for the 3 days (!) and we'd like to avoid that if at all possible. Anyone who can lend assistance will be greatly appreciated! We'll be bringing the computer and the modem, and we'll have a phone line, we just won't have a dialup account, which is where you guys come in.

Thanks for your assistance!

Spark: Check out www.netzero.com They are a free dial up provider, similar to Juno, but with full web access. All you have to do is put up with a little ad thing in the corner of the screen

I can donate a CD for 200 free hours on AOL.

Sorry.....could not help myself

At this time, we're considering a lot. I don't trust "free" dialups (AOL isn't free, since they expect you to pay eventually), but we'd prefer something stable.

¿I must be missing something here?

Re AOL, I would never trust them, on the other hand as long as you cancel, after the show, I would not see you exceeding the free limit. The way they and others used to get you is relying on the entity not canceling or going over the "free" limit. There may be new ways to hook you such as minimum periods etc.

Net providers such as Bell South and AT&T, have local numbers in Atlanta. It does not matter where your account is, as long as your account/settings/configuration info is in the laptop. You just need to know what the local dial up number is and add it as a new dial up connection, or just go in and change the number for awhile on the usual one. I am too tired right now to think about (want to avoid brain strain) the actual and various techniques, unless you need help, and go this route. For instance it has gotten easier to use dial from a new location.

You can get the local number before you go, by dialing in long distance and quickly look it up, or some services have an 800 number for a reasonable per minute charge (reasonable if connection is not too long).

If your server is hooked in through a national company, perhaps they can provide such a number. If not subscribe to BellSouth, ATT, or someone for a month for $20 bucks or so, and make sure to have the Atlanta number handy. The only problem is when you want to do this internationally. There are not too many Internet Providers that have local numbers in foreign countries.

There are also a couple of phone type people on the forums, perhaps they will chime in. If doing this alot, and your main provider does not work for this, get e.g. a BellSouth account if you have a business line for $99 for a year...or at least that was an intro offer....and just use it when going to shows, or traveling.

Feel free to Email me if any of this sounds feasible, but you have a specific question.

Unless the show is offering a special fast access line such as an ADSL line, $200 sounds very steep.

I am on mindspring and there is a local dial up number in Atlanta (Mindspring is based there...). I actually live about 100 miles south of Atlanta, but connecting in Atlanta is no problem if I dial the local number... no long distance charges.
Since I will be at my girlfriend's house all weekend and not have access to my account anyway (will be using hers) I will be glad to donate mine.
Mike or Spark- email me and we can discuss the details.

If that doesn't work out, I have a BellSouth dial-up you're welcome to since I use ADSL.

We do not use Bell South or any national account so we will need one quickly. Please email us as soon as possible with the details.

Local dial up number and username.

We will be on the road and we will not be able to access email and we do not have time to go back and forth. Sorry.

Sparks girlfriend will be able to get our email and we will call her to get the info.

Simply email us the info and so we can use it. The suggestions above are nice and all but won't work for us.

The first email with the dial up info we need get's $50 credit towards anything I can get for you and that means damn near any knife made

Mike, Spark... if this is going to help any, consider me shouldering 1/2 of the $200 fee for the Blade Show if you can't find anybody who can lend you a dial-up account.

You have my card on file, and my go signal on this one.

Let me know if this offer is okay with you guys.
