First one I ever built - A half-breed, Shovel top, Pan bottom, jockey clutch, no front brake (there was a conical hub there, but worn so thin that even with brand new shoes it wouldn't hold on a hill). A real death-trap, but 19-year-olds thinking they were going to be building bikes for the rest of their lives don't really think about stuff like that!
The wife's bike that I built concurrently with the next one after it. Hers, an '89 FXRP, His, an '88 FXRP, both bought from the Nashville cop-shop auction on the same day.
Her first build:
And after a ton of elbow grease, polishing fins and other parts trying to save money on the chroming process. Branch heads, Andrews cam, '59 model ol' lady, sheeeuut, quite a package goin' down the road!
Mine, same specs, Branch, S&S, Andrews, all the internals are aftermarket. This is a real top-end screamer:
Couple more random builds over the years:
'91 FXSTC:
'84 Wide Glide - (Last year of the Shovel - first year of the belt drive - interesting bike):
After a bit of tall-guy tweaking:
And the only thing I really miss about living in So Cal, year-round riding weather, my friends, and the world-famous Rock Store in Topanga Canyon, where hundreds would gather every Sunday, showing off the finest American Iron (and other stuff too) in the world:
Maybe the preceding pics explain my love for shiny Beckers:
