I've been thinking about making this upgrade, but the $200+ is hard to swallow. Maybe when I save up some gift cards or something. Being as anal as I am about it, the original vise and the setup involved makes me groan when thinking about getting it out. Especially on FFG blades or blades with small flats, I'll spend too much time with angle cubes on the blade and doing math figuring out the exact center of the apex, then remembering what offset each side needs to be. It'd be nice to just clamp the thing in the jaws and forget about it and no offsets. For example, removing a FFG blade in the middle of a progression is a definite no-go for me. The new jaws appear to make the system 1000% better.

It is. The old vise was what held me back.
I recieved the upgrade kit for my 2016 field and sport yesterday. Did full reprofiles to mirror finish on a 3v cold steel mini hunter and a pma11 Spyderco mule, and I definitely agree with officer's match. I went from ~5 minutes perfectly clamp a ffg blade to ~20 seconds. Worth every penny.

For me it is the stupid simple clamping of full flat ground blades with a lot of distal taper, ala Spyderco Endura or Delica (obviously the current FFG versions). The new 2017 split jaw version does it with no need to do anything more than hold it still and crank the lever over. well I have a very negative review on wicked gen 3 I just bought, this is for all you going to be very upset people like me that bought a gen 3 , are you aware that your gen 3 storage compartment , yes the 2 or 3 shelves which ever you have will not fit the current diamond stones when you putting 6 side by side on the shelves, yes they made changes and there thicker so 6 accoss wont fit,as I have discovered and so will you, thanks wicked edge for dropping the ball on that mistake, the older sets from 5 years ago will fit but not the new ones, I phoned them this morning and they told me oh yea we know about that , but added what to want us to do about it, totally clueless I thought, well I m going to enjoy showing off my is us made knife sharpner complete with this mistake,thanks wicked edge I truly feel I wasted my money, where is this made seriously ! wicked edge you need to look after your customers who made you where you are sitting today , yea and I m one of them !thank you for my return phone call I never got !

I own a WE130 that I bought in the Pro Pack III, and I love it! Sorry to hear about your problem with the Gen3. I'm guessing that you mean the Gen3Pro? I have no experience with that one. The WE130 that I have I bought last May, I think. I wonder why they would make the storage compartment smaller? That makes no sense at all. If anything it should be larger.
I got one of the new venture pro portable sharpeners. A month or so later the optinal diamond hones arrived but I cannot figure out how to change them. Emails to wicked edge asking for assistance remain unanswered after several weeks. Why do they on their website have a link for "customer support" and offer no support.
They just pop off, and are held by magnets.
I got in on their kickstarter for it, I can't say as I am very impressed, the design has a couple shortcomings that make sharpening with it less than great but it does work. It's not that I think it's horrible, but if they offered me my $ back I'd happily take it
Now my Gen 3 pro I've had for probably 10+ years, not giving that up, esp. since it was half the price of their new version. I will say it's too bad they no longer seem to offer upgrade options, in the past they offered the ability to upgrade various parts and even part of their page that showed you what upgrades were available for your system. That seems to be gone now.
