Any New Lum Designs Coming?

Post-mortem? Not sure how that would work, but I guess whoever he willed control of his designs to could broker a deal, if Spyderco so desired.....

Not sure about "new designs" but from what Sal has said there seem to be plans for a larger version of the Chinese Folder and perhaps a smaller version of it as well.

i think the idea of a smaller chinese folder is pretty cool. Like a chinese dragonfly sized blade would be pretty cool.

From what I understand about the "Lum" name. Due to the number of designs he had licensed out to companies, over 10 companies (many overseas) last count (from a buddy who is close to the Lum family), he incorporated and then set up a trust. Any of his designs (from what I understand there are over 100) can be licensed to a company, and licensing fees are paid to his heirs. Bob Lum was the innovator of the modern american Tanto fixed blade. He is up there with Loveless when it comes to licensed designs.

Here are a few companies I know that have licenses:

Timberline/Neely
Benchmade
Spyderco
Blackwater
Gerber
Seki

Coldsteel (unknown if their tanto design was a rip from Bob or he permanently sold them the rights).

The rest are overseas, I used to have the list but can't find it.

I believe I recall Sal mentioning that he had license to another Lum design that has not been produced yet.

It was a tragedy to the knife industry and the world to lose such a man as Bob Lum.

It is heartening to know that his designs will live on.
