Any North East Texas Knifemakers?

I am in Winnsboro, TX and am wondering if there are any makers fairly close to here that would let me come and learn a few things from them.

I have attempted to make a few knives so far and learned quite a bit from it but would love to move to the next step.

I am in the process of making a washtub forge as well as the KMG clone and need someone to show me how to use both properly.

Do ya'll know of anyone who would be willing?
 
Jason I am just done the road from you. I have a clinic in Gilmer, but I live in Longview. I think Gilmer is only about 30 miles from Winnsboro. Give me shout.
 
You are in easy driving distance of the largest concentration of ABS smiths in the country. You are literally surrounded. I would suggest a drive up to Dequeen, AR for one of the monthly gatherings at Uncle Al's.

Yeah, Gilmer isn't too far at all from here. I'd love to get together and make some sparks some time.

I suppose I should also take a trip up near Terxarkana. How often do they have their gatherings? What do they do there?
 
It is the second Thursday of every month. they mostly do demo's on how to do any thing they can think of, from forging to final finish, usualy 2 or three a nite. It's at Riverside Machine in DeQueen AR. Usualy 3 or 4 Master Smiths and the same or more Journeyman.
 
Hi Jason, I am a regular at Uncle Al's and invite you to come join us. We start around 5:30 with a meal provided by Uncle Al and then you will have the opportunity to see several demos. We always have a good time. One rule is that you need to bring a knife that you have made or one that is in progress. There is usually around 30-40 folks there who range from just starting to mastersmiths. Its also a good time to pick up any knife making supplies you need.
 
I drive a school bus on the side so I'll have to manage a few things but I would absolutely love to come.
