Hi, am new here, but have read forums for a while now. Have a relatively small Spydie collection of 7 knives. Am looking a NYC area dealer that has a decnt reputation. Any recommendations? Thank you.

Sorry I can't answer your query, what is your next Spyderco?? Or are you strong enough to draw the line at 7? (many before you have tried)

Thanks Ferret, as my topic states, am looking for the new model Native, I know it can be purchased online, but am wondering about a NYC dealer. I know a few, but most are outrageously over-priced. BTW, I have both the plain and serrated Natives in GIN1 and love them both. Great, compact, hand-fillers they are, take lots of abuse and still kick butt and take names! I have some more expensive stuff from other makers, but I keep returning to my Natives to get the job done.

I saw one in a small knife shop up on the second level of the mall at Roosevelt Field a couple of weeks ago.

The only one they had was serrated,

(or it would have been mine.)

The guy behind the counter was unaware that Spyderco made anything without serrations.

He had a real hard time explaining the full size plain edge Wegner I took out of my pocket to show him.

BTW, I forgot to mention...the fullsize Native is rumoured to be out soon and do you know about the blue BF ones?

I was at Paragon last Sunday (19th and B'way) and saw the new Native for sale there. Don't know if this was one of the "outrageously over-priced" dealers you mention, but they are full retail there.

Paragon also had in the new BM Ares (730) and the 720.

Thanks for the replies, Ferret, MNH, JonlyBonly. I think the small knife shop you mentioned,MNH, is the Remington Store. Sometimes they have a few decent items in stock, and the guy working there you mentioned sounds just like the one Ive encountered in the past. Will have to check out Paragon, havent been by there for some time. Will let you all know if they are "outrageously over-priced"! One shop in Manhattan Ive been to called "Self-defenses" on West 54th Street is pretty well stocked on lots of items, including Spyderco, SAK,Benchmade, all kinds of gadgets like flashlights, pepper sprays, etc. But this guy wanted like 90 bucks for a SAK Champ!! A hundred for a Leatherman Wave!! Guess Im not as bad an impulse buyer as Ive been accused of being!

Before heading up to Paragons, start at the Iceberg Of Soho Army and Navy store on Broadway at Grand St. They are a huge store with military clothing, shoes, lighters, arm patches (not cigarettes!), ammo cans, vintage military stuff, paintball equipment, and other related stuff. Oh, and knives of course. They too are at full retail and have a large selection on production models but no customs/ handmades as does Paragons. However, they are currently closed for big renovations and will open on May 4th for a huge discount on all inventory according to their posted flyers. That should put their cutlery at about "normal" prices.

Enjoy your trek up B' Way.
