Any of you actually broken a Busse?

Yeah, but I don't count Noss breaking the FFBM as breaking it. Hammering it through a steel pipe/weld is something you'd never encounter a need for. I'm looking for people who have actually broken one using them within reason *I would consider prying with an FFBM within reason.

yeah, nos beat the hell out of all those knives.

I don't think with normal use you could ever break one.

Cliff Stamp is a Busse breaking legend. I tried finding his old test posts and pictures but no luck.
Someone must have his writings saved somewhere, they're worth reading:thumbup:

I had a micarta scale on an AD crack once and the shop took care of it. I'm not really sure how it happened as the AD was always lightly used and you had to look closely to even see it.

the worst I've ever done was stab a bandicoot into a glass plate. I mashed the tip back a solid 1.5mm, which sharpened out. I was much younger and knew much less about knives then.

as far as I know cliff only ever broke a heavily modified basic 7. Noss (sp?) of knifetests on the other hand has broken several standard infi blades.

Remember though Noss does destruction tests so he continues until they break.

Like I said, I don't count Noss as actually breaking some of those knives. If he was beating them on wood it would be one thing, but hammering through a steel pipe is quite another, especially against a weld. My ford excursion is what i'd call unbreakable as far as vehicles are concerned, but if you shoot it with a 20mm/rpg/.50bmg/drive it into a wall doing 75, it's going to break. That doesn't mean it's not durable.

It was really impressive how much they took before giving out though, more than anyone would really do under even extreme hard use.

I have to agree, I have no disappointment that they finally actually broke. If that is your goal and you do not quit until it is attained then you will eventually get there. I am very impressed at how much effort it took to get there.

Don't forget the badger that deflected a bullet and survived...

------

When I first got my .32 ASH I dropped it tip-first on a stained concrete floor (or tile, I forget) which put a little dent in the tip, but that's to be expected - and it was fixable.

I have thrown this ASH a couple of hundred times, and missed or had it ricochet maybe a hundred of those - sometimes hitting rocks or a metal fence on the way down.

I have chopped/batoned through many hardwoods and fallen trees, used it to dig fire pits, chopped roots embedded in the dirt, and nothing happened but 2 dings in the G10.

I have chopped through a rusty chain, beating the utter shit out of it with at least 20 full force swings (and I'm 6' ~190lbs), and only tore a little chunk out of the edge...

And it's noteworthy to say - despite it's chunky proportions - it'll peel apples and slice tomatoes and do plenty of fine tasks when properly sharpened (despite being .32 thick).

I have intentionally pushed the limits of use, while trying to not get into actual destruction tests (though some would disagree), and it's a beast, and I'm a believer.

Further, though I did such things with no expectation for a free warranty fix - the fine folks at Busse have stepped up like they're so famous for doing each and every time.

Busses are exceptionally tough, and withstand exceptional abuse, and are backed by exceptional people. And I believe these things by way of first-hand experience.

Now I need to get my BWM paid for and move on to seeing what sort of things its capable of - which I'm guessing is a long list of needs and wants and surprises...

I broke a Dogfather. But not really. It was just a piece of defective steel from the steel manufacturer. Of course, Dan replaced it.

Here are a couple pics of Cliff's BB7.

Before breaking
That is a standard-sized BB7 with it, which shows how much its dimensions had changed. Note the expansion of the choil and the reduction of the spine-to-edge width. Lots of scars from sadistic abuse on that anorexified bad boy.

Oh man! I nearly forgot about the Bondo treatment he gave it.

Cliff was a class act:thumbup:

Oh yeah, there was this moment, but it was really more about connection dissatisfaction and modem abuse.

Have any of you guys ever actually broken a Busse? The worst i've seen thus far was just the edge chipping when downtown chopped the chain. Broken tips? Scales fall off? Broken in half? Major chipping? I've been beating mine horrifically for a knife and they keep laughing at me. The only truly broken ones i've seen was Noss breaking them intentionally after a lot of work. Anyone? pics?

I've never seen a chip in INFI steel... I've seen a guy drive an FFBM through multiple concrete blocks with a mallet though. Mild denting but no chipping.
