Any of you guys use your sheath as a strop?

I've used the side of the heel on my boots before. It's something I remember seeing my father and grandfather doing when I was younger. It is not only effective but convenient when sitting with your legs crossed.

Yep, same here!

Im to fat to cross my legs.

As mentioned, an extra long belt is a better idea. I picked that up from Dave Canterbury a few years ago.

Good ideas here. Sharpening issues seldom come up since I am mostly doing shorter hikes and I can keep a sharpening stone inside my vehicle when it is needed.

Compound, dirt, etc on the back or front of the sheath will eventually be ground into the stitching and cause faster wear. Just use the edges. Compound is optional... I don't bother with it. My concern is that it tends to attract dust and dirt.

You can strop on almost anything reasonably flat and firm. The edge of a kydex sheath works too, for instance.
