I think I kinda am. Got a BUNCH of guns. Blade magazine is so superior to any gun rag that there is no contest.
Just EASIER to play with knives. No rules, regs, BS shipping crap.
They're purty like guns and LOTS easier to mess with with no hassle.

I still like my guns but plan to sell a BUNCH real soon. Just too much trouble and I'll still keep 10 or 20 which SHOULD be enough to stave off knife raiders.

And you don't need a RANGE to go hurt yerself.

Can do it in the kitchen.

Even easier to CLEAN.

Never thought I'd see the day.

Lavan,

This has happened to me. I have all the guns I'll ever need and have since switched to knives. I gave away all of my gun rags and have a subscription to four knife magazines. I even traded my only commander size 45ACP last year to acquire a Scott Cook Lochsa. What a great knife. It was a nice gun too but I have others. My friends think I'm nuts. They just don't have the same appreciation for fine cutlery that I do. Oh well, their loss. Glad to see that I am not the only one with this affliction.

I concentrated on knives all of last year. They're now my primary source of interest due to many of the reasons you just stated. I already have most of the guns that really interest me. But knives are a whole new (relatively) deal. Being unregulated compared to guns, there's also a much greater variety and the sense that knives and knifemaking in general are more innovative viz custom projects, steel development, quantity of makers, etc.

I'll buy a few guns this year and a few custom knives. But I guess I'm becoming a knifeknut who likes guns instead of a gunknut who likes knives.

My hobby interest seems to jump around. I was always a pistolero, until I discovered the amazing accuracy of heavy barreled varmint guns. That lasted about 6 years, and I sold a lot of them. I intend to have a really nice 22-250 built, but then again, that could be a year away.

Now I'm returning to bikes. I've always swung my head when I heard a nice V-twin, but now it's envy. Finances improved, and everything fell together.

Knives were nice because I knew very little about metalurgy, and went looking for 'that one jackkknife.' You know how that goes. Further, knives were the first hobby I mixed with the internet and the fourm here. In fact, I consider BFC my home forum, even when the FiringLine was open. I made some friends here.

Now I'm looking forward to summer and all of the new advances in bikes. A simple Harley now has fuel injection, yikes.

Perhaps that's it. Some guys are always looking over that next hill. Funny, I am taking a nice knife for this trip.;)

I have. The only two that I have are a Smith and Wesson Model 34-1 (.22lr) that I learned to shoot with and my great grandads Winchester 1886 in .38/56 Win.

Lavan,
When you do sell, I'd be very interested in what you have to offer. Keep us posted.

I didn't get to collect enough firearms before (cash flow), and then I started living in places that I just couldn't have them or really collect them for my enjoyment. :grumpy:

So I was like -- what's the next most dangerous thing I can have?!?! :D

Seriously, I like collecting them because of their utility & some just look really cool -- like they say, "One of man's oldest tools."

Well, I haven't ever traded a gun for a knife, but I've traded lots of knives for guns...

I appreciate fine cutlery as much as the next guy (and I still have TONS of knives) but I feel guilty having that much money tied up in something that doesn't go "bang". I don't think I would ever use a knife that cost over about $350.

Like others have said, my hobbies seem to come and go in waves. I concentrate on one until I start to get a little bored, then move on.

I've always had a bunch of knives, but I bought my first handgun just before x-mas. (Glock 17) Now I am a little more interested in guns over knives.

i can't seem to get bit by the gun bug.. perhaps that would be different if i had a permit to carry.

welcom to knifedom, bruddah.

I don't know whether I am into knives in a big way or not. I currently own 2 handguns that serve me very well and truthfully don't have a desire to get more as the two I have are right for me. A first prod. run of the ROSSI mod 971 in 2.5" ss .357 and a Colt CCO of course in .45acp. That is an LF serial # and the best s/a pistol I have ever owned. I own more knives than anything else currently but have had quite a collection of custom made bows over the years though.

Most of the knives I own are prod. models so you couldn't say they are high end or anything. I do enjoy them though. I think I like the gadget factor in them and how they are put together more than anything else. Oh yea I like to get them razor sharp! I notice too that although I don't pack a handgun 24/7 I always have one near when in the house and I always have a knife on me. Just for the mundane tasks that need being done.

I am flirting with the idea of getting back in the saddle of a scoot once again too. Used to own an FLH years ago. Last of the 74's I had. Had it for years and being young and impressionable well eventually it got to the point of the wife saying you gotta make a choice that lifestyle or me and the kids. Picked the latter and never looked back. I also never ever thought I would see the day that I would even consider looking at a rice burner but there are some verynice V twins(big V twins) out there now that are half the price of a HD.

I don't forsee anytime soon though the knife supplanting my handguns for a ccw type of thing. I realize that they can and have been used for s.d. but it just isn't socially exceptable to do so and I think you have more of a problem with that type of s.d. situation than in using a gun. Just my opinion. Keep'em sharp

That's exactly what the anti-gun crowd wants to happen. Then they'll go after your knives. :grumpy:

For me both are really cool. But what really floats my boat lately is trading Custom knives for guns. It is just so much fun and has a great cool factor.
Now if I could just quit getting those pesky Disconnect notices:D

Still have a big weakness for both, but I find that I can usually buy a couple of good knives for what one good gun costs.

knifedaddy....They'll go after sharp sticks too.

I will not sell ALL my guns.

I just have adult kids who would not appreciate the stuff I have.

Still an NRA member and will continue to be.

Have CCW and carry daily.

So no worry about me playing into the anti gun drips.

:)

Me too. For now I've put on hold improvements to my gun collection and related skills, due to time and money limitations at the moment so I've focused on improving my knife collection (and related skills) but someday will again focus on guns. Knives are less expensive and easier to used and play with yet are similarly satisfying.

Switch away from guns???

NEVER!

I'm actually trying to buy all the guns I can, because if things keep going the way they have been, we won't be able to buy many at all in the next few years. (At least in CA, I mean...)

I too would be very interested in what firearms you are going to sell.

Please PM/email me!

It was Clinton's assault weapons ban that caused me to switch from guns to knives. The passage of that law more or less froze the development of guns available to civilians - no more high capacity anything.

I had seen what was coming and bought all the guns I could before Clinton took office. Then I found myself with plenty of guns and no prospects of buying even better guns after the ban went into effect.

Drjones is right to buy all the guns he can as fast as he can. Should the Democrats get control of the federal government next year, they will pass all sorts of nasty gun control laws. Knife control laws won't be far behind.
