The first week of September, after seeing this web site: http://www.solisearch.net/ims/album.php?u_id=11165k5MDt , I mailed Mike MacIntosh a new Spyderco Persian and payment for him to modify the handle scales. After a few months of apparently avoiding my repeated attempts to communicate, and finally - proven deciet, Mike finally admited that he couldn't do the work and he would refund my payment, and send a new Persian to me. That was over two weeks past. I still have not seen a refund or Persian and I suspect I will not, with the expletives I endured on the phone today, and was hung up on.
If any one has had any similar experience with this craftsman or is aware of any recourse avasilable in this situation, please advise.

wow, that sucks, i have never heard of the man IIRC, ya could contact the authorities where he lives i suppose, good luck!!

I`m having a huge problem with a member called MWM(Mike MacIntosh).I traded him 4 knives worth 340.00 combined for 3 of his custom kerambits,I sent mine on Aug13 .The deal we had was on bladeforums,I registered on KF a few wks ago,but haven`t been able to log on,but that`s another problem.I saw that MWM sold most of my knives on KF,but still haven`t sent me a thing.I was able to reach him by phone 2 months ago and he claimed he was sick and that his computer was dead.I`ve got no responce from him ever since for numerous emails and calls of mine.He has a lot of good feedback on KF and some on BF,but this sure seems like a case of fraud.I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter.

Any news on MWM?I haven`t heard a thing from him and at this point I consider my 340.00 lost (stolen is a better word to describe this!)

I have dealt with Mike Mcintosh also, Had a good trade with him smooth as silk. Then sent him a fossilized mamoth bone to make me a knife using it as the handle material. Small knife mind you not a Monster bowie or anything, I am out about 50.00 not near as bad as others. but when I tried to call with the number listed on the web. All I got to talk to was his wife and asked her to pass along my phone number and email for him to contact me and well that was a month ago. Not even sure if he is answering his phone anymore. Having his calls screened if you will. I had a lot of respect for him but this activity is not appropriate. I understand he has been sick, Computer crashed, cant' make a long distance phone call. Well All I can say about that is It was my Dime and he still wouldn't talk to me to make things right, I have closed that chapter and wrote off my loss. but I hope this thread will keep anyone else from getting tied up in a Mess!!
Thanks
James

I've e-mailed him a link to this thread and invited him to answer with his side of the story.By the sounds of the situation,I don't think we will be hearing from him.

Seems like this is the way he decided to get out of knife business, grab whatever he could from several people, sell it and stop answering phone or emails.I`m sure he would`ve been able to make at least one kerambit since Aug13 and send it to me,(or send something of value or some$$) if he intended to continue selling on forums.

Maybe I shouldn't be so judgmental. The guy could have been laid up in an ICU for the last four months, or worse. It's not likely, but you never know.

Stuff in life happens, and I know we tend to be a suspicious bunch on here but experience has taught us to be this way.I mean how ill and how many tragedies that seem to hit the same makers can we be lead to believe.Sure, someone can have a bad streak of luck, but I'm very ill and my computer blew up,and I didn't pay my phone bill all at the same time excuses get old after awhile. Is there no one that can assist these fellas to get in contact with customers or at least post a message for the maker on a forum,so they know what is going on like a family member? Just seems they don't give a hoot, and have no respect for people left to hang imo.

I agree, it just seemed to me that maybe my using the word scumbag was uncalled for, but then again, maybe not.

I did a trade with him also, been awhile but it went smooth, hate to see this now, wish he would jump in and say something?????

I hear ya, sometimes we may regret what we say, especially if there is a good explanation in the end.I wrote an e-mail to him with thread link in which I wasn't so nice.I would feel like crap if there was a "good excuse" As stated in this thread though, someone did call to resolve the issue, but the man wasn't interested in talking.Kinda hard to excuse that behavior me thinks. In anycase,Sometimes it is necessary to bring these situations public in order for some resolution to take place.I hope the people that are affected are able to get back what they have lost.

You know when you deal with a thief by a complete lack of communication from his part.I called many dozens of times, his daughter or sometimes wife picked up the phone and said the same ridiculous thing:"Mike is not home and I don`t know when he is coming back","Mike is away visiting his relatives" or "Mike is not home,he`ll be home later".They said their computer is dead and they cannot dial long distance. All he needed to do was to send a letter to the people he owes or go to the library and email from there.I used to get 2-3 emails from him every day in August when we discussed the trade,he disappeared right after getting my knives and selling them on KF.I reached him by phone once in September , he apologized and claimed he had high blood pressure, back pain and asthma.None of these are terminal diseases and are rather chronic conditions experienced by countless millions of people and none of these develop overnight except maybe back pain,(in case you think he got ill right on the day the mailman delivered my knives to him).

You make excellent points.

Thanks, but I feel like an idiot having sent 340.00 worth of knives to a guy I didn`t know.I have done that before and also received knives and $$ from people that didn`t know me and all went fine, but I guess once in a while one has to lose in this internet game we all play:)

here's some google results for that phone#

Francine Hodge - (850) 253-8064 - 1301 Georgetown Rd, Madison, FL 32340
