My girlfriend bought me a spyderco delica for my bday, and i love this little knife. I plan to put it into some real use. I dont know much about spyderco but im wondering how some spyderco fans feel about the delica.

If it says Spyderco It's All Good. I Had a Delica years ago when they came out. It was Full serrated if I remember right. It was a cutting machine. I lost it after a few months use, but since then I have gathered up about 30+ Spydercos of various models and configurations. Thank your girlfriend for this one and be good to her so you can get more.... many many more!!!! ~baba~

I love the delica. I use it for trimming weeds, cutting root bulbs, in the kitchen, on all sorts of cardboard...just the perfect size for getting day to day stuff done, fits very securely in my small hands. After about a year, my d3 has a slight wobble when opened, and a small scratch when i screwed up sharpening it, but still very functional. on the sharpening note, i find after using it outdoors and cutting plants or wood it will need sharpening afterwards, but with the white sharpmaker rods it only takes about 5 minutes to bring back to being somewhat sharp.

It's an excellent knife, very good value and has a lot going for it. Most people I'd imagine would be very happy with it. Now here's what I don't like, after having owned two and trading one to a friend and one to a BF member.

It doesn't quite fit my hands (I'd say they're medium large) to get a 4 finger grip like my friend who I traded it to can do. In a 3 finger grip it just felt unbalanced when applying pressure on the spine with my thumb. I don't like the saber grind either, but it makes it easy to reprofile to a better cutting edge by grinding flat to the main bevel (I do this with my Enduras). Personally I prefer the Native for the better grip and lighter weight, but it still suffers from my obtuse edge complaints.

Everything else about the knife is great. Secure FRN scales, plenty of handle and blade strength, excellent blade steel, smooth opening and secure lockup etc.

the delica is a good knife and a good value...... you know spyderco is doing something right with the delica when it is consistantly one of their biggest sellers for years.

I personally dont like the frn handles but thats just my preference

which model/steel did you get?

Delica is a very good cutter. I have two of them. VG10 is an exellent steel, one of the best on the market, good ergos.
Delica is a good introductory to Spyderco.

The Delica is a really good knife.
Well made, with excellent blade steel (VG-10).

Once you get used to the Delica you will be looking for a Endura to go along with it.

You can't go wrong with a Delica.

1) Spyderco is one of the two or three (add: high volume) top production knife companies.
2) Delica is really well thought of.

I prefer my Native III, but my Delica still gets pocket time.

the Delica is one of the quintessential Spyderco knives.

That about sums it up. It's been such a popular knife for a long time. I have a Delica with wave, and I find its size perfect for EDC.

Just bought one myself a few weeks ago. Stainless with Plain Edge, I really like it. Nice size and weight for me, not to big or heavy for EDC in an office enviro. Throw it in my pocket in the morning and I barely notice it all day.

A friend of mine who is an old retired state trooper has carried his serrated Delica daily for many years. I have carried my serrated Endura for about as long. Great knives. I just happen to prefer the larger Endura. It fits my hand better. Both of ours are the old style with all plastic handles. No liners were needed.

I sort of agree with this...though the Gen 4 Delica and Endura feel more "solid" than the Gen 3...

Meantime, I prefer the Gen 3 Delica to the Gen 4 Delica,
and the Gen 4 Endura to the Gen 3 Endura.

Gen 3 Delica had the perfect weight and perfect size and was strong enough to do what it needed to do. I still carry one often. The Gen 4 Delica is a bit too heavy and stubby for my tastes.

That said, and with the Gen 3 Delica no longer in production, I reiterate my earlier post where I said the Gen 4 Delica is very good knife with excellent steel. But I've switched my EDC to a Benchmade 530.

The delica is great, but getting one, combined witht he fact that you are here. Well, that means this is justthe start....... Ever heard of Benchmade.....:)

You got yourself a very good knife. More importantly you got yourself a great girlfriend. Both are keepers.

The Delica is a great knife, and a great beginner to boot. I'm getting one for my little brother. But, if you have big paws like me, keep the Delica but get an Endura.
