Any Opinions on Buck Mayo TNT?

I've been carrying my Waimea more than my TNT lately. It's basically the same design on a smaller scale and is a little more pocket-friendly.

I thought I'd share a story from just last night, a few hours after my post above.

We were awoken by the weather sirens. A quick check of the news confirmed that a tornado was bearing down on the area. I've been through one before and knew that if it hit, I would need to quickly go out to check on the neighbors and property. So, I got dressed and put on my shoes. I then retrieved my Arc AAA and Surefire E2E. Then I turned to my knife box, chock full of quality blades from Spyderco, Victorinox, Kershaw and Buck. I started for my SE Salt I due to the rain but quickly changed my mind in favor of the TNT. I knew it would be ready for whatever was needed. It is a trusty companion which has yet to fail me.

Fortunately I safely tucked the entire family in the bed an hour later with damage.

I'm glad everyone is safe. Living here in the NE I can't even imagine what that must be like.

Back to the TNT....

The TNT is one of those knives that I almost buy and then change my mind. For me the issue is the light weight, it seems that it would be delicate. Does the TNT give that impression?

I have the Northshore , which is an inexpensive aluminum liner locking version of the TNT and it's perfect for light duty , but I never consider it for heavy tasks.

Well, it is light. But it is also a Ti frame lock with S30V. So, to some extent you have to ignore what your senses are saying about it being delicate and realize that the knife is much tougher than tactile response would indicate. I have the same issues with FRN and CF. Those are tough materials which don't weight much.

I don't baby my TNT. It is more scratched than any knife I have b/c I use it for everything.

All that said, the grind is thinner than other "heavy duty" knives. I personally don't think it is much of an issue (more of an asset really since it makes for a better slicer) but YMMV.

Eventually I'll come across one priced right and I'll buy it. They are still fetching a premium. thanks

I like the Buck Mayo a lot. In some ways I like it better than my sebenza, and in some ways I like the sebenza better. It is a very good design. And don't forget the TNT's smaller brother, the Waimea. It is a great knife on its own.

picked up the cf version a few months back. The fit and finish isn't that of a sebenza and the shop owner wanted as much money as for a small sebie- I talked him down by comparing the two and it worked. Overall it is a great knife with the exception of blade retention ( the ball in the frame lock is too small maybe?) issues, grind and finish issues and centering as well. The ergonomic do not work for my hand but I might have the handle modified, will see. The steel is great and the knife is as light as it gets for a frame lock folder. Did I mention it looks great too? 7 out of 10 for me.
