Any opinions on the SOG Aegis?

Me neither. Too. Wow. I'm starting to think that threads over a year old should be auto-locked.

Lets see AUS8A is not a bad steel. I uses an arch lock which is in my opinion smoother than an axis lock. It should be as strong if not stronger than an axis lock. It's also an assisted opener price is about 75 bucks (few dollars more or less, the real price not lamely quoting MSRP fantasy)

I only own one SOG (Tomcat III) I must concede that the ARCH lock is no joke and it's probably raises the price of the item. My impression of SOG is they make great quality products and I don't hear complaints of failure about them.

So no it's not overpriced at all.
the aegis doesn't have an arc lock. It's basically the same as Sog's other assisted knives with an actuator in a different spot.

I have a SOG Mini X-Ray I bought about 6 years ago - good steel (VG-10), blade tight and centered [the only combo blade I own]. Only problem is clip came off and was lost. Overall I feel it is a decent quality knife but have no knowledge of their more current offerings. I love the Arc-Lock.

I had the visionary 1 and lost it. Great knife. I decided to buy another SOG to replace it and got a trident mini. It is not near the quality as the visionary in my opinion. It is harsh in the hands and feels cheaply made. with the visionary I could deploy the blade by slightly pulling back on the arc lock and flicking my wrist. I liked that but can't do it with the trident. I would have sent my trident back but it came in a blister pack, so not in original condition.

The SOG Aegis was one of only two knives I have owned that I could cause a lock failure just by pushing on the spine of the blade with my thumb (the other was a CRK!). I do not trust the arc-lock now because of that, I am sure mine was just a lemon. YMMV

The Aegis has one of the best designed blades that I have ever seen. Full flat with lots of belly and it comes razor sharp. I really like mine, however, see if you can 'cherry pick' one for blade centering.

As for the Visionary 2, I recommend it without hesitation. SOG did everything right on this model and it will stand toe to toe with anything else in the price range.

+1

If it weren't for the assisted opening and the piston lock, it would have been one of the best knives out there.

I have a twitch xl and a visionary II. While I like the VII the blade runs the liner and SOG CS hasn't responded in the 2 times I've contacted them. I would suggest benchmade over SOG.

Let's add another month to it. Done

Not sure why there's so much opposition to any thread discussion, regardless of how old it is, perpetuating

Its not that. Its just that some of us figured out that we are answering a question that is years old, and the original poster apparent is long gone.

The ongoing discussion part is groovy, though.

People complain about steel liners but I bet if you add them to sog knives like the aegis it will feel less cheap ,
