Looking to see if there are other choices out there besides the delica 4 ffg that are rock solid, no blade play(not that the delica has blade play), same price range, around the same size for edc.

You could get an Ontario Rat, but the steel is not as good...and it's larger.

I find the Delica 4 FFG to be my favorite EDC. There's a few blades that make it into rotation, albeit, not quite as frequently.

1. Cold Steel Mini AK-47. Love this blade. Dimensions almost identical to Delica but not a FFG. I like the inclusion of the pommel. Find it's very comfortable in hand, lightweight, ABSOLUTELY ZERO blade play, and the same pricepoint. Aus8 steel, which is adequate, but not as good as VG10 by any stretch of the imagination. Awesome blade. Only minus is the G10 is so grippy it'll tear up your pockets.

2. SOG Aegis. A few dollars more. Has assisted opening, which isn't necessary imo, but does make this knife super fast upon deployment. Very light. Just slightly larger than the Delica. Will run you about $60. Again, adequate Aus8A blade. There is very slight blade play side to side, however.

3. CRKT Ripple. Another lightweight blade. I have the cheapie version that Wal-Mart sells, I think the more expensive version has had questionable quality in its bearing system. $35 for the cheap version. Great little EDC folder, pretty solid for its pricepoint. Steel is of lesser quality, though, and not nearly as ergonomic as the Delica.

For the $$$, Spyderco just puts out a great blade that few match. That Cold Steel is super impressive and a tight run for the dollar against the Delica in my eyes. It just misses the bar by a few millimeters with the slightly too aggressive G10. Spyderco's prices seemed to have moved up this year. I prefer Spydercos for their value and performance. Another price push upwards, though, and I may sway with my "favorite" brand as there's plenty of options for great production knives.

any blade play on your delica? i've been reading a few reviews, just a few, that complain about some blade play.

None. Lock up 100% and no wiggle anywhere. I had to lock-tite the screws on the clip, as they did loosen from factory. I know I had a PM2 I sold that came from factory with screws that would not stay seated...also lock-tite. But as far as blade play on the Delica, none. That said, if I was to compare how I feel about the strength of lockup between the Delica and Cold Steel...Cold Steel hands down. If I was to abuse and beat on these two blades (not that I would) I would expect the Delica to fail the very first hard-use test while the CS would live to see another day regardless of what I put it through. Thing is like a vault, and you can tell by feeling it. Just inherent in the design, and obviously neither is truly meant for hard-use duty, just throwing it out there.

ok thanks.

If you're interested in the Delica, I'd suggest looking into the Spyderco Stretch. It's about the same size, but with a little more blade, a far more practical blade shape, and improved ergonomics. It's one of the best values for the price.

Also, consider a 555 mini-grip. It deploys much faster than the Delica and has a similar blade shape.

the stretch is a little more pricey though.

I was down to the delica and benchmade mini grip 555...thumbhole blade. The benchmade gives you a little more cutting edge in a shorter overall knife. I'm a spyderco fan, but the axis lock is a pretty sweet set up.

Look into a Mini American Lawman from Cold Steel. Solid feeling in hand, Tri-Ad isn't going to fail you anytime soon, blade is only a tiny bit smaller. True, the steel isn't as high end as the Delica but I feel that the fit and finish makes it worth the difference in steel. Only real complaints are the pocket clip is super tight and the G10 is brutally rough at first so your pockets will scream at first until it gets buffed smooth. The Delica is a great knife too, no shame in getting both. :)

Delica is my favorite at this price range, for that matter, one of my favorite for edc period. (I only like my small sebbie better, but not by much)

I have a purple endura FFG and its great! My girlfriend loves it even more.
I loved my skyline but I lost it someplace.
I've been thinking about getting a kershaw knockout or piston. They are around the same price.

It's all a matter of opinion. I personally feel that the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian is a better value than the Delica. They both cost about the same and have FRN handles but the Mini-Grip gives you three different blade styles to choose from, 154CM blade steel, axis lock, and it's made in the USA. IMHO comparing the axis lock to a backlock is night and day, the axis is so much faster and easier to operate one-handed.

The mini grip is close, but I prefer the delica a little more. You can't go wrong with either of those two. However..... Everyone has those! I have cold steel that I keep in my toolbox. It has been beaten on for years and still works great. The steel is not going to hold an edge as long, but aus8 can get super sharp easily.
