Any Other S90V Knives Planned?

I'd love to try out the steel but don't want another Military. Knives that size just aren't seeing the pocket time for me that they used to. Any chance there will be something like a Caly 3 in S90V?

I doubt there are any more folders planned in CPM S90V at the moment (if there are I would be very pleased).

For suggestions on a smaller model to use CPM S90V, I think the Para Military would be great, as it already seems to have quite a following.
If you want something like the Caly 3 then the UKPK is the only similar Golden made model, and I'm sure our overseas friends would like to try the steel as well.

yeah i also wish a smaller clipit would get the cpm-S90V steel like the Caly3, UKPK, Urban some day  for my "mundane" cutting chores, the Millie is more knife than i actually need :o

From something Sal mentioned about sharpening knives it sounds like he would like to use more S90V in the future. Of course, no ETA.

Maybe Spyderco will jump right to S125V!! There was talk of M-4. I'd still like a sprint run of A-2.

Having used my S90V Military at work quite a bit, I am of the opinion that the steel would be total overkill in the "gentleman's folder" catagory. I don't know if you would see a difference between S30V/VG-10 and S90V for light use. It's when you get into the hard use that the steel really shines. Maybe for a G-10/linered Calypso Jr. (a.k.a. the Micro-Manix), but for anything less, I don't see where it would be anything more than a bragging point.

It's kind of obvious, but we already have the ZDP-189 Caly 3.

ZDP-189 is just as wear resistant as CPM S90V, and much harder (better for a fine edge).
With this version of the knife, an S90V version would be kind of redundant.

You're probably best off just to get the Caly 3.

As far as CPM S125V goes, that steel is still out of reach for production companies.
It's just too wear resistant to effectively make knives out of (until they find better grinders).

The second Mule knife is planned in CPM M-4, and hopefully we'll see it on a few production knives as well.

I'd buy a Caly3 in S90V just to brag about:D

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you there. I've used ZDP-189 and S90V side-by-side and I find S90V to be far more wear-resistant when used on abrasive materials than ZDP-189. The charts may say otherwise, but that's what real-world use has shown me.

thanks for the feedback yablanowitz :)

This is news indeed. When Spyderco did CARTA edge retention testing they came out just about the same, and I expected CARTA testing to be biased in favor of CPM S90V.

If S90V is even better with real world use than the tests say, then we've got a real winner on our hands.

That could also point to CPM 10V doing better than CPM M-4 in use.
I'm also getting a little excited for MPL1, as it seems to be an upgrade from S90V (Hardness in the mid sixties), while not taking it to the extreme that S125V did. If it's more practical in manufacturing I'd love to see some on a knife.

We need more Mule Team knives, that's for sure.

It probably has a lot to do with the things I use my knives for. ZDP-189 is run a lot harder than S90V, but the high vanadium carbide content on the latter seems to make the edge last longer on things like drywall, OSB, mastic and various other building materials (with generous portions of very fine blow sand thrown in for good measure). Those things really put abrasion resistance to the test. I may be harder on the steel than the CATRA test ;)
