Any other SAK minimalists out there?

If I am not with a Multi-Tool I will be carrying a Vic. Recruit. No crazy corkscrew, just the common, simple needed tools. I attached a couple links of chain to it, opened one of the links so I can hang it on my pocket ala clip style. It's great, stays outta the way and outta the pocket munge.

Cheers,
Gord

My EDC changes between the Spyderco Military and a Victorinox Rucksack. But allways with me on the keyring is the Classic SD. I would be naked without.
In the next days I will receive a Classic SD with rosewood scales - perhaps I will change it on my keyring.

I have looked at all of the different Victorinox models. About 25 years ago I started carrying the Spartan. I never liked the red handles or the corkscrew. I went through alot of different knives and now am back to a black handled Tinker for everyday urban carry. No red handles and no corkscrew.

For woods carry I love the Victorinox Trailmaster. I love the locking blade and the woodsaw. You can take entire trees down with that saw. It is very simular to the Ruksack which everyone raves about for woods carry, but the the Trailmaster has black handles and a Phillips head screwdriver in the place of the corkscrew.

I agree with the minimalist phisophy of the thinner handled SAKs. With the aluminum liners and the plastic handle it makes it very light in your pocket and you hardly know that it is there.

The other model that I like is the Farmer which is discontinued now. It is essentially a Soldier model with a woodsaw. It is still a little heavier in the pocket than the Tinker.

I know some love the Classic. I saw an interesting way to carry the Classic is as a necklace. Put a length of nylon parachute cord through the keyring and wear it around your neck under your shirt. It will always be there when you need it. :D

Reeko,

If you like the Farmer, which isn't available in the US anymore, go to www.swiss-knife.com and check out the "original" models. Here is the new Pioneer to which we've referred:

Same thing only LOTS classier looking. Cheap direct from Switzerland, too.

Frank - yes I go to the Victorinox shop quite frequently. Do you live in Hong Kong?

Less is more with a SAK. I carry a Spartan attached to a Photon II in my pocket all the time, and keep a Soldier in my bag (as well as having them littered all over my home). Indispensable tools.

I've got a zillion SAKs (and room for more), but the aluminum handled models have a special place in my heart. If that Pioneer had scissors, too, it would be just about perfect.

I like the soldier. It goes everywhere with me. When I can carry bulk I have a Gerber Multi Tool.
