Probably a dumb question, what oil do you gents use to coat your satin finish?? I imagine just a good gun oil would be fine right? rem oil or something?? Just got my new fat satin Ash from Knifehunter, it was done by Garth an WOW..... I mean WOWWWWW!! This thing DEMANDS respect. But it's my first satin blade. So any care advice is appreciated!! :D

Satin infi doesn't require anything. Possibly a wipe down with an oil impregnated towel after handling, but that's it. Congrats

I just wipe them with a damp towel or cloth after each use. I don't think this steel is high maintenance at all.

If you're going to use oil, I recommend food-grade mineral oil for handle and blade, ALL Bussekin steels.

I have no satin, but I use Olive Oil on all my carbon steel knives.

FYI, Olive oil will go rancid. I suggest looking at another oil.

I don't use oil. It attracts dust and grit. That leads to more sheath scratches. I like tuff cloth.

For the most part, I agree. I'm fortunate to live in a dry enough climate that I really don't have to worry about rusting. But some people have no choice but to use oil (near the coasts, etc.). You don't need a heavy coat.

I wipe my stripped Busses with Ballistol. Food safe and great stuff...

I think I would try some renaissance wax, it's suppose do give excellent protection from moisture and rust.

I don't have any satin Busses (yet that is, ahem ASH2 ;)) but the only oil that goes on my knives tsubaki/camellia oil. It was recommended years ago when I got in to Japanese kitchen knives and I've used it ever since.

I guess I'm addicted. I never tire of looking at these fine Busse photos. 'specially ASH1's...;-).

It is nice that you are giving a temporary foster home to my knife mate... ;) ;) I have a cheap shaving brush that I keep in a zip lock bag, it is impregnated with a clear mineral "butchers block oil" that I have worked to coat all my blades in (cleaning the old coating off and using this one as the times come around). Prior to that it was (like Aias) a shaving brush with Ballistol.

I'll take it when you tire of it. I'll make you a trade seriously in your favor
This is gonna be the blade I pass to my son one day when I'm on my death bed.. but Knifehunter has at least 1 more with black g10 from a small run... this thing is a pinch over .32 an that's without coating!!! This is also the sharpest blade I have EVER witnessed...seriously
