Any plans for a "better" Lite Machete sheath?
Just got one, love the machete itself but the sheath is terrible :(
Retention sucks, belt loop seems to lead to awkward positioning on hip.

Oh and BTW I just ordered a Junglas and a DPX :D

Condor leather sheath can be found for around $20.

Reason for the cheap sheath is just to cover the blade, not really a belt sheath. Other machete projects have had fancy sheaths and it puts the price point even further up there. Too much for a damn machete in the eyes of many.

Here's my cheap and easy retention mod...

you might be able to get a kydex bender to make a sheath for you. but the whole point of the sheath is just to cover the edge not really carry it

Yea, I guess. I am looking to maybe order one of those cheap GI style ones on ebay. Kydex would be awsome but after searching could not seem to find anything online.

Seems that Dizwolf or someone tried one of the GI style plastic sheaths and it wasn't a great fit. The Lite has the upsweep at the tip whereas GI machetes are straight on the spine.

Kydex for a blade that big isn't really practical. The cost of the sheath would be as much as the blade. That's alot of kydex to mold, shape and finish the edges on.

I've had a ton of requests for them but just have no interest in making them.:o

Nancy. What there really needs to be is someone to make a kydex retention point you can attach to the stock sheath. So it would snap in. Know'm sayin'?

I believe originally, they were going to be produced with no sheath. It wasn't until I ordered mine I learned there was going to be one. I ordered some condor leather sheaths for their El Salvador model, which is a perfect fit.

I didn't try plastic, But the sheaths for the Ontario machetes didn't fit well, are basically also crap, and cost as much as condor's offering anyways.

Here's the snapshot again:

They run $15-20 and a few places stock them. Place I got mine had the wrong photo on their website, and was a warehouse shipping front. But They both came in within a few days, and the company replied VERY quickly to emails outside of office hours.

It's a cost thing. Besides, we rarely use a sheath excet to store it on a pack, otherwise it's in our hand. The sheath is a cheap POS because if we made it any nice you'd be paying a 100 bucks for the machete.

I have a Condor Leather Sheath come soon I hope it holds well! I hope to post some pics and I have some of a Lite Mod to it,That Forty2 did! also

Condor's leather is of superb quality, I doubt unless you go custom and pay 5-6 times as much you'll find a sheath as nice as it is.

TexasT The molle back is a little $$$ for me I can get the Condor for Half Sorry:(
Like the Molle If you have one kicking around I'll buy it from you!

I was not just speaking of the molle backing ? people used the 3/4 molle back, bungee type cordage ,or stuff the machete into sheath and use a small strap w/ cam buckles that bolt into lone top hole on said sheath alot of cheap dollar store mods can be made..:D
or use supplied paracord from any previous ESEE knife 6-8" green cord ,run one end thru hole on sheath ,wrap over handle and use cord lock to tighten...

Well, I for one would have paid $100.00 for it with a decent kydex sheath and I am sure I am not alone in here. It really is a nice machete. I am in Miami and grew upusing cheap ass "disposable" type machetes and this thing is nice. But just a thought I am positive you could sell more than a few kydex sheaths in here.

I stand corrected. Just went across town and tried my dad's GI sheath that is with his Ontario GI 18" machete. The sheath fits the Lite great. Retention is good. Not too tight and it retains it while bouncing it upside down. The only thing that doesn't work is due to the blade profile, the sharpener doesn't contact the blade when withdrawing it from the sheath. You can find these sheaths online in OD, tan and black I think.

In the areas we haunt, if your machete is in it's sheath then it might as well be at home.
Also, for a sheath to be on your side, you'll want the cheap, flimsy nylon that doesn't get in the way of you sitting down or that will retain water like leather will. I have many 'chetes and I own 1 universal fit hard sheath that stays on my pack at all times. ;)
