I see Benchmade start using this steel and as I understand mos knives on ABS competition this year was out of this steel.

Does Kershaw has any plan to use it as well?

Thanks, Vassili.

Oh well, we'll just have to keep buying knives made with all of the OTHER great quality steels put out by Kershaw.

Guess we can't have it all;)

you mean we can't have a knife made out of that newfangled ZDP-378 i heard about the other day :D:D:D:D:D:D

M4 is the exotic steel of the moment, it seems. I've heard murmurs about using it in knives for about a year, I guess. I'd be glad to have one (in fact I plan on snapping up Spyderco's M4 Mule whenever it materializes), but there's no reason that I have to have M4 blades when there are so many fantastic steels in knives right now. Where did the excitement about 14C28N go?

Production knife companies have to produce knives, not spend millions of dollars on tooling and testing unobtainium alloys that just aren't practical.

We've played around with M4, and like it. Maybe there will be a project in the future, but our focus has been on Composite Blade combo's (14C28N/ZDP-189, CPM-D2), and we have our eyes on the upcoming CPM-110V Shallot blades. As Martini says, we're also putting real time into 14C28N as well.

I mean there is a limit to our resources, and you have to draw a line as to how much you can explore with these exotic steels.

I think we'll be ok without a M4 knife in the line-up for awhile. Maybe they're be something set up for 2009. We'll see.

Let it be written...wait, it already has been! :D

There are lots of things that I don't know, but I know one thing for certain. When Kershaw brings out a CPM110V Shallot, it will be mine!

I am terribly sorry, bringing this up. It will not happen in the future.

Thanks, Vassili.

There is no reason that you should feel sorry.. It is a valid question.. That im sure, some others were wondering about....
