I'm thinking I need to pull the trigger on this thing. I need a good non-auto

there is this one, but I'm confused by it. Why is it "balisong"?Opinions? If I could get it under 100, I'd be happy maybe.

I'm thinking <80 I should get that one.

opinions, hurry hurry hurry hurry I've got the bug. I'm waiting on a repair. I needs one now now now!

edit: I was confused on that ebay one, it's not a combo edge. Hmmm.. which one should I get?

Early Benchmade Knives were stamped with the Bali-Song logo. That's a neat find. I promise not to bid on that one. ;-) Good luck.

And no, I see no reason not to get a brand new 710 in D2. Although, it took me 2 nights with diamond rods on my sharpmaker before I finally got to the actual edge. Now that it's been re-beveled, it's got a reasonably sharp edge that stays for awhile when I'm breaking down cardboard boxes.

Buy it new, it's an amazingly great knife especially for the money.
You found a great price on it from knifeworks who is a pretty good dealer IMO.

If you do a search here on BF you'll see the 710D2 is pretty much unanimously praised.

>I would avoid buying the ebay listing unless you are really looking for a "collector's item", which it is.

I know it's praised, that's why I'm looking at it. Why would you avoid the Ebay knife? Worn out maybe?

well I just emptied my paypal account. Ordered the new one. I didn't pull off the whole "waiting" thing. Seemed like a great price and the company seems ok.

You got a great knife. The 710 remains one of my all-time favorites.

I've ordered from that dealer numerous times over the years, and it's one of the best (One of my father's day presents is coming from it).

I've bought a few knives on Fleabay, and had pretty good luck, but I always made sure I knew exactly what I was getting. Even the slightest hint that something is off with the item or seller and I won't bid.

you really have to be carefull. I remember reading about some fake BM's on there recently, this one seemed ok, but if I got it for say $70, pay &10 shipping then I've saved about $25 for a possibly worn out knife that needs work and possibly has had a poor egde angle ground into it. This way I know what I'm getting. I'm not worried about collectors stuff either, I want my knives to use.

also, I don't know how nobody else caught this, but the blade on the e-bay one said it was ats-34 NOT D2. so you'd be saving money but wouldn't be getting the steel you were after.

I think back in the day when BM was still displaying the balisong logo, they weren't using D2, at least not much. But....they were using Japanese ATS-34 on a variety of models. I don;t know the timeline, but my BM-Emerson 975 was purchased in 1996, and ATS-34 steel and Balisong logo was "in" then.

I'll chime in and say that my dealings with Knifeworks have been tremendous. I would highly recommend him as a Benchmade dealer.

I just got my 710D2 from Knife Works last week and it is a great knife if you're looking for a large folder. This is my first AXIS-lock knife and it took no time to get used to flicking open and closed the blade. I just wish they made one sized in between the 707 and 710 with a 3.4in blade.

not that long ago the 710 was 154CM, D2 is pretty recent

I now own 2 710's in d2 the first one did not have a great factory edgoe on it. The one I got in from new graham this morning had an extremely sharp edge out of the box. There is no reason not to buy this knife. It carries very easy for its size, its not overly heavy yet has enough heft to give a sense of confidence. It is really a hell of a knife.

I've ordered from them exclusively since getting into this whole knife thing a month and a half ago. Great service so far, and they had what I wanted in stock where no one else did. Another time where they didn't have what I ordered in stock, they called and we went through some other options I selected until we found what I wanted. They offered to hold the order, split the order, etc. Very helpful.
