Any reason NOT to buy this? BM710.d2

I just got my 710D2 from Knife Works last week and it is a great knife if you're looking for a large folder. This is my first AXIS-lock knife and it took no time to get used to flicking open and closed the blade. I just wish they made one sized in between the 707 and 710 with a 3.4in blade.

If yer interested, the old BM 720 is a 3.4" Bowie blade w/ aluminium handle. Most were 154CM. I think I saw a few in Knifeworks' Closeout section earlier today. I have a 720S pre-production model in ATS-34 that I really like. If they were still going on it or I could find one of the G-10 scaled versions, it would probably be my EDC.

got my tracking number via email this morning, shipped yesterday. Scheduled Delivery tomorrow. seems like a damn good place of business. Best price I could find and super fast shipping.

The G-10 versions were called the 721 - very hard to find and they snatch a real pretty penny when they come up on the 'bay.

:D :D  he usually shows up around 11. I left my front right pocket empty in anticipation today. Of course I still have my leatherman though. Can't risk a few hours without a blade.

I do have one question, does that reverse curve hinder sharpening at all? Seems like the stone would only hit on the edges and not do right.

Recieved. Not bad, about what I was expecting. I'm fumbling with opening it though. I dunno if it's easier to pull the axis and flip or just flip yet. Pulling the axis is weird because my other BM is the 5000 and it's auto opening.

Some have said they have a hard time using the thumb stud to open a 710. I never had that problem. Here's the trick: With the knife closed, and the tip down, place your thumb on the blade just under the stud. Push up. This method is as opposed to trying to open using the stud by placing your thumb to the side of the stud on the scale.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your 710.

I have no problems opening either way, my gf laughs when I snap it open, she says; "guys...!" I sharpen mine with the sharpmaker and have no problems. I keep it in the pouch now that it came with, I was getting lint in it a lot from just being in my pocket itself and had to "q-tip" the inside all the time. Glad you got it bro, enjoy :D

I just received my new 710D2 today. My other BMs are the AFCK, Mini-AFCK, and AFO auto.

I think my new 710 might just be my favorite!
(and I already knicked myself by flipping it closed) :-)

Stay sharp,

IMHO, about as close to the "Perfect" pocket knife as you will ever find. When mine came in, I took it into the bathroom and shaved with it. Right out of the box!:)

I reprofiled the edge to 15 degrees to fit the sharpmaker better. It takes, AND HOLDS a pushcutting edge.:D

I also put my edges back to 15 deg. a side. (Thank goodness for the Sharpmaker diamond rods!) D2 has no trouble with that kind of angle.

I was surprised to find that the 710 has a blade that's a tiny, tiny bit longer than the AFCK, but has a SHORTER handle... it's a bit more "size efficient."

I really like this knife. This is my first knife with thumbstuds (except for my Kershaw Ken Onion knives where the assisted opening gets used instead of the studs). I was concerned I wouldn't like them, but I find it is very easy to pop the 710 open with the stud; maybe easier than with the thumbhole of the AFCKs. I just don't like the way they look on a blade when it's open. Oh well... I'm sure I'll get used to it. Maybe even endeared to it. :p

Benchmade's studs are usually pretty comfortable. I've never been a fan of Kershaw's studs, some of them are too pointy.

I have the old 154cm version (got it just before the switch to D2 actually) and it's been in my pocket every day since last January. It carries like a much smaller knife and doesn't get in the way of anything in the pocket.

I finally broke down and took it apart last week to give it a very good bath; the washers and pivot had some gunk in them. It opens as smooth (if not smoother) than new and locks up like a vault.

Great knife that sees considerable use daily.

But I swore a blood oath that I must sound like a flack when it comes to the 710... :D Wonderful knife. Interestingly, I can't actually hit the thumbstud completely when doing a stressed opening, but rather just below it- it still opens, but not quite as fast  I still think it is just an awesome knife. Plus, I think I saw a close brother of my 710 in my new favorite cheesy TV show, Traveler. I think it was a BM stryker. Which gives extra points for BM  in my book.
