Any reason not to get the Spyderco Endura 4 for EDC?

Please forgive my ignorance but what do you all mean by the term "wave"?

I'm kind of like LastDefender here. I know what the Wave feature is, in that I know what the difference in appearance is, but I don't understand how the feature works. Help us newbies!

Please forgive my ignorance but what do you all mean by the term "wave"?

It is a feature patented by Emerson Knives, look at their site for full demos, etc. Spyderco licensed from them. Basically, the spine of the blade (above the Spydie hole) has a hook or horn pointing forward. As the knife is drawn from the pocket the hook catches and pulls the blade open. Some do not care for this feature as the hook can wear the fabric, I find with very little practice the knife opens quite reliably on the draw resulting in a smooth and effortless opening.

While we're asking newbie type questions, what do you mean when you say "I bought a [knife] PE"? What does PE stand for? I'm usually good at guessing that kind of thing but i can't figure this one.

PE=plain edge No serrations

Lately I've EDCing a full Grip in the front pocket AND a Buck 110 on the belt----I really don't consider either too big and hardly notice carrying them both.

I use Galco gun belts so they're meant to carry a load----I really don't even notice the 110.

To answer your question: NONE WHATSOEVER!.

There's a reason why it's been Spyderco's flagship product for a very long time. Simple in execution, reliable in performance, functional in design.

I gave my Endura 3 to my dad who now knows how good a modern folding knife is from a respected company. If the 3 is already good, imagine the sweet enhancements they made on the 4th!

Go get one! Look at the "waved" version as well for light-speed blade deployment. You'll be happy you did!

I got a couple of them in zdp-189 and I have been so impressed that I cant put it into words. Sal you have made 1 he** of a knife and I will probably carry one of these for a long long time.

I have an Endura 4 PE with the Wave but I much prefer my Manix. I like the flat grind better and prefer S30v over VG10. If the Endura handle material was G10 I would like it better also. That said the Endura is a very nice knife.

I believe that Spyderco IS going to make the Delica & Endura WITH G-10. There are prototypes of them at Blade as we speak.

The only reason is that it might be too big for you. I had an Endura 4 in SS for quite 10 months. I just found the blade too big for what I use it for. I decided to go to the paramilitary once I found a great deal on a used one. But I recommend the Endura if you want a big knife, the FRN is probably better than having the SS model. Though i would go for the pacific salt.

The only thing i could imagine i discovered when i took apart my endura 4 today. Well 2 things. First the liners werent as beefy as i would have hoped, they would bend a little if i squeezed on the handle.

What concerned my more is that there doesnt seem to be much metal around the hole where the blade is bolted to the handle. In all honesty it seemed like there was only about 1/8 of an inch of metal surrounding the bolt hole in two places.

Dont get me wrong, this is a good knife, I carry it in my bullet proof vest as a backup item. However I just expected, and prefer, it to be a little bit beefier and solid.
For example when i got a caly for my grilfriend the liners were thicker and stronger and full sized and it did not give when squeezed.
But it is a great knife, I love it, dont regret buying it. It just wouldnt me my first choice for a work folder.

Yabba Dabba Doo..........may as well send Spyderco my credit card now. Spyderco.

Only one reason I can think of against the Endura 4 - blade length exceeds legal limits for a pocket knife. That is why I have the Delica.
