Hey all you guys and gals out there, this'll be my first post here, so please excuse me if this ain't the right place to post this thread. I've been here for a while, but have only posted on certain threads. Getting that out of the way, here's what I want to ask all of ya'll:

Does anyone have a Full Flat Ground (FFG) Fixed Blade knife they could recommend me around the $40-$50 range? I've read a few threads concerning this matter but some of the blades mentioned aren't FFG, but I still took a liking to them. Being my most favorite grind for the outdoors and general tasks, I would like to get another FFG knife. The first few that I can think of are the ESEE Izula, the Becker Necker, Kershaw Bear Hunter 2, & Kershaw Antelope Hunter.

I have in my stash an ESEE Izula (black) and a Becker Necker (w/o the handles). Currently, I'm limited on cash and what I can spend on a blade is topped at $100, so I would like to ask the people here for some help so I can spend my $$ on something I'd like and would hold on to for a couple of years.

Thank you for your time and contributions to my issue :D:D

Hess Knifeworks sounds like a good fit for you. If you shop around there are several blades that evoke more personality than the ESEE or Becker Necker while still being under the 100$ price range. They have their large caper blades done in cocobolo, birds eye maple around the 80$ price range. If you go up to one of their hunting knives, they still remain under the 100$ price range at 85-90's$. Edit: They're actually convex ground but I've found that convex ground knives work superbly for bushcraft/outdoors work and are very easy to maintain with the mousepad/2000 grit sandpaper technique

GEC makes FFG fixed blades, one of which I like the lines and size of. The Great Eastern Cutlery 734 Hunter Fixed Blade can be found for right below the 100$ mark.

Let's try this in the General Forum.

Just above your budget (if you can squeeze it or wait a bit);
Benchmade Saddle Mountain Hunter - FFG in s30v

Nice Diamondwood or G10 handle, great steel, quality American brand, definitely something that should last and you can be proud of hanging onto for quite some time... Find 'em for right around $125.

I have an Ontario sp46 and i use it for day hikes and outings. I hard use it and i can attest the the 5160 blade is very good keeps an edge and is very tough. I would highly recommend it. Imo for what it is it is at the top of its class value^function-wise

Becker bk 15 is a ~5in trailing point knife with a ffg (with a swedge) made of 5/32 1095 crovan. Been on sale for a while around the $~40 range.

Kabar mk1 is a 5in ffg blade, usually costs about $45.

Agrussel bird and trout is a 3 1/8in fff drop point, in something like .08 in thick vg10 (may be off on the steel). Runs ~$30-40 iirc.

Also, isn't the esee 3 ffg? I guess that would be overpriced though.

If you are looking for a budget work-horse check out Condor Knife and Tool. I have a Kumunga which will chop all day with the Backers, Rats, and Esee's. Their product line is full of great, tough, budget minded, and well made knives. Many are FFG and they have many sizes to choose from.

^ I've been so close to pulling the trigger on a Hudson Bay more then once... As others get checked off the list, there is No doubt I wind up with one by years end...

Thanks for the options there, I was actually looking at the becker line the other day, can't decide which one to get. I'll have the BK15 in mind the next time.
As of the ESEE 3, funny thing is that I had one, an ESEE 4 to be exact, and heavily used it for a while. But a really close friend wanted it & he didnt want to buy a new one, so I sold him mine. Now I kinda regret that, haha.

Thanks, I've been recommended benchmade more than once, though I haven't owned one yet, I've been staring at the 940 Osborne folder :). I'll keep the Saddle Mt Hunter in my wishlist, what do you think of the Benchmade Steep Country? Saw that one while searching for the Saddle Mt on amazon. Though it aint totally ffg, I like the design.
