Mine has evolved over the past year - seems to be migrating back to more traditional looks.

Anybody else make modifications to their's? I'd really like to see them.

This will be my multi-night setup for a rabbit hunt I'm planning for February:

Schrade Uncle Henry 897 instainless - small tasks, whittling spoons and critters (for the kids), some food prep, etc. Also has redundant blades.

Grohman #1 in carbon - food prep, camp chores, guy lines, etc.

Browning Barker - choppin' wood, blazing a trail, and feelin' like a mountain man.

Can you ive us some details on your use of the Browning competition knife? How doe sit compare to other large knives or hatchets that you have used? Any comments on edge durability, balance, comfort in extended use, etc?

Thanks!!

KT,

It has been a workhorse with plenty of clearing and chopping making hunting ground blinds and some trail work. The carbon steel convex edge gets scary sharp on the Sharpmaker - I take all the way to ultra-fine rods. Has never chipped and holds the edge for multiple trips, and then easy to bring back. It has a much different feel and sweetspot than my Outcast, but out slices and chops it. I have used plenty of hatchets (including Estwings and bruks), but prefer the wider cutting edge of a chopper over hatchets - more forgiving for me.

Great bang for the buck.

Mine has changed completely about 3 times, now its my Gransfors sfa, OHT, and my F1.
I have a bark river nebula on the way though, and my grohmann boat knife as well, so you never know.

Mine varies depending on what I'm doing. The chopper is always the same Swedish hatchet that I've had for years. The fixed blade is either my Mini Canadian or Northstar, and the folder is either a SAK Outrider or Vic multitool.

No, I stumbled on a winner with my first try.
Snow & Neally Penobscot Bay Kindling axe
Jarvenpaa Leuku and 3 7/8" puukko.

Brians,

Nice trio! I wish you would stop posting pics of that Barker, everytime I see it, I have to convince myself that I don't need to buy one! Just kidding, of course, keep them pics coming!

I reverted back to traditional stuff as well.
Kershaw Camp ax knock-off that has been really good to me.

Some combination of these. Either the SAK Champ or Trekker is always with me (I mean always). The ATAX is almost always with me these days, it is just so comfortable to wear. I whipped it off my belt last night in order to open a defiant container of ice cream cake, my oldest daughter groaned (she thinks I am knifenut or something). Anyways the ATAX came through and we averted a true household emergency!

MB,

Love that Case. Can you tell me more about it in terms of steel, feel, and appeal?

It's stainless steel and has a good edge holding capability. Personally I can't tell much difference between Case's Stainless and CV. It feels great in my hand. The curve fits comfortably into my palm and both scales are not the same and that as well gives the knife some good texture for grip. I also have a Case Trapper in bone stag. I have been EDCing these two for a while. No blade play at all. Love 'em:thumbup::thumbup:

Well, just might have to get a Case now. Thanks.
