I would like to take some W&SS classes. Anyone know or recommend any near east Tennessee?

It's not a school, or anything, but Brian lives in western NC. You could probably meet up with him, and he could show you quite a bit.

I could use any help I could get. I am very interested in learning some skills.

I have been told that Walter State Community college has a "bushcraft" class. Don't know how good it is though. Made for ROTC students I think.

+1 for Marty Simons 3 day course. I took the basic and advanced, learned alot and had a ball doing it. Also, check out the first 5 volumes of Ron Hoods videos @ survival.com. At the very least you should get survival basics vol 1&2 dvd. Good info there. There is a school in northern Georgia(I think). Its called wilderness outfitters archery. Dont know much about him but his vids on youtube are pretty good. Where are you in TN. Im in Memphis. You could always organize a weekend trip with some fellow forumites. Im always up for a weekend trip. Good luck.

I have some stuff in the planning stages to hold regular "meetings" to practice skills, and bring in some top survival instructors -- kinds of "Wilderness Skills Club." I'd like to have a winter gathering in Janurary or February. To stress, at this point, it's in the early stages of conception. I've been working hard to get my skills back since the car accident/traumatic brain injury a few years ago, and it's all coming back nicely, but I don't feel qualified to teach again yet...but we can share, and then have solid instructors maybe come down for special events and teach.

Let me know how I can help Brian. I'm ready for the real job to slow down some, even been getting back in the woods again some. Still got that unfinished business out in Middle Prong to tend to. ;) Although it is way too cold right now for this southern boy to do an overnighter. waah. :(

shootist, there is also a school just south of here, guess it would be about 2 hours from Knoxville; I've not taken any classes there, but a fellow I took Marty Simon's class with this spring at PWYP took one and really liked it. The guy that runs it was a head instructor at Tom Browns' school. Yeah, I know, Tom Brown and all that; I've heard the guy knows his stuff, all I care about. I'll get down there for a class one day. Not sure if I am supposed to link here, I'm sure Brian will take care of it for me if not!

Think dylside has taken a class there and even did a review here on the board. Here it is: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=556943

Fellow named Steve Watts also does some classes out of Schiele Museum in Gastonia. He wrote a book, you can google his name and it comes up in amazon.com.
