what kindof dive knife do you carry if you carry one at all? I dive the warm waters of the gulfstream and the caribbean, and do not hunt fish, so i only need a blade to cut fishing line off of me or my buddy. I have a Blackie Collins knife that is attached to my BC's inflator hose. Also, what do you use your dive knife for?

I'm a divemaster and I primarily dive South Florida and the Caribbean. I carry a razor sharp, partially serrated Gerber Clip Lock on my inflator hose.

If I want a probe, I carry a big ugly orange handled dive knife on the inside of my leg. It's as sharp as a butter knife!

Along with a good knife, a great thing to have is a pair of EMT shears. Several kinds are available and will cut through all kind of entagelments. The ones for diving come with a holder. Also some diving operations prohibit knives to avoid damage.

Well I have used nearly every knife made including that HUGE orange handled thing. Was that a Dacor BTW?

Now thanks to Sal and Spyderco I pretty much only carry the Snap-It. It is the most thought out diving folder ever produced. Also look for some neat stuff coming from Blacki Collins. I talked to Blacki on Thursday and we will be hosting his new web site which will have 3 hot new diving knives.

Mike,

I don't have it at hand right now, but its not a Dacor - maybe a Danforth :-0

I like your idea of a fully serrated Snap It attached to a D ring as a backup. I thought I saw an orange sheepsfoot blade advertised somewere.

Tom,

I carry three pieces of cutlery when I dive.
Doesn't matter, cold or warm water.
I carry a Columbia River Stiff Kiss which
is strapped to my B.C. near my inflator hose.
I carry a copy of Jimmy Lile's Rambo I. Don't
laugh. Most people do, however if you drift
dive and need to stay on the bottom while waiting for the rest of the people on the
boat and the current is really ripping you'll
need a blade that big to stay stationary.
I was in Cozumel last September and the current was really ripping. We did Santa Rosa
and Tormentos in the same dive! There was a
couple on their honeymoon who had trouble getting down (scared of current). The rest
sunk their knives in the sand and waited.
One by one they were all blown away! I was the only left on the bottom, thanks to my
knife! Great dive, got to do the Wall alone.
My other piece of cutlery is a pair of EMT
shears which is the only thing that will cut
steel fishing leader. The Emt shears are indispensible. You can cut your way out of a mess in no time with no exertion. They can be had real cheap.BUD K WORLDWIDE sells 'em by the dozen for like $14.00.
Bigger is really better (when your drift diving).

I carry a cheap Taiwan all metal dive knife. I lost an expensive dive knife once. I carry it on a wrist thong so it can double as a tank banger. I also carry a little gut-hook shaped rescue knife. Small and unobtrusive. Finally EMT shears. They can cut everything.
