I'm interested in getting a Shing Bushcraft design in 3v. First off, I can't find his website (anyone know where it is?) and secondly, I don't see too many of them other than HD's posted here on the forum. Why is it this guy's work isn't more popular?

Post your Shing here. This is a classic knife design that I'm getting a hankerin' for again.

I really like those Shing bushcrafters as well...being a UK based maker with a pretty large backlog, that has some impact as to why there aren't more around.

Yeah he has a pretty big following on the British Blades forum.

I also suspect the Dollar VS Euro exchange keeps them on the other side of the pond.

After HD's last post featuring a Shing, I started looking. Someone here finally sent me his site address, I think, and I e-mailed and aske about getting a blade. It took a long time to hear back and he said he would put me down for one but I haven't heard anything else. I don't even know how long it takes. I replied to his e-mail and asked and never heard back. This has been over the course of probably six weeks or so.

So, I have one coming,.... I think.:D

I'm always pretty surprised that there isn't really an american 'smith putting out blades similar to that. I know there's a stigma with 'copying' designs, but it's a pretty darn broad style.

Not to talk smack, but I don't see anything I can't find right here on this very forum.

Heres mine. The one with the wider blade I sold off. I carried the other one at PWYP.

I agree. I bought a bushcraft knife off ebay a while back (from the UK) and it was a fortune! I have several knives from guys right here on BF that are just as good and cost much, much less. That said, I am a knife lover and the Shings do look sexy as hell.

Yep, the ones in Caines post look better than the ones I see on the website. I could get a little excited about them.

This is the one that got me excited and led me to request one for myself.

I agree - we have little to want for with the makers who post here. Specifically, Bryan Breeden made two for me to my sketch and did a wonderful job at not straying from the specs. Excellent knives and used a lot.

Then there's this one from Kayleb Reynolds - my favorite knife.

I will soon have another and some of his "Baby Bushcrafts."

But I still want a Shing.:D

Very nice Jeff. I see his blades every so often, and they look simplistic and very appealing.

I agree Jeff. I have one of Kaleb's full tang Pukko's and it is a favorite of mine. I don't know what it is about L6, but it has a different feel to me when I sharpen it and I love the stuff. Kaleb does that particular steel justice.

He's super hard to get a hold of. It really takes effort.

Yeah, and I have a tough time balancing whether I am being a PITA and just excercising due diligence. My vote is to pester. I thinkn I will contact im again and see what I get. His e-mail was kurt and choppy, like he was in a real hurry. Must be a busy fella.

Hey, who's gonna step up, finally, and ask Kev' why he has a picture of Ned Beatty on his avatar??:foot:;):D

Like somebody said the exchange rate makes it somewhat uneconomical to order stuff from the UK.

On the other hand I really like Shing's designs and despite a number of makers making full tang bushcraft style blades there's not anyone whose producing a knife that is very much like the Woodlore on this side of the ocean far as I can see.
