Any Southern California knife makers Willing to Let Newbe see their Shop

I live in Rancho Cucamonga and I am hoping to find a knife maker that is with in say 75 miles or so that would be willing to let me stop by and see his shop, let me watch him at work, and basically get some knowledge from him.

I want to start making a knife using the stock removal method and one of the things I am wondering about is how a blade is profiled and kept even the length of the blade.

I think it would be very hard to do this freehand but I am sure many of you do. I am assuming many also have developed fixtures to hold the blade at the correct angle.

I just got today in the mail the "$50.00 Knife shop book and have only thumbed through it but I think seeing someones shop and learning from them would really help me.

I also will be in the Red Bluff California area in December is anyone is near by.
 
You might try Bear Paw Customs (see the Fixed Sale area for contact). I know he's in Anderson, CA, not too far from Red Bluff.
 
You might get a copy of KNIVES 2008 book.
There are makers listed by state and you could look up where they are in CA.
by name......And you will find that most makers would be happy to have you visit....with. if I were in CA., "Please disregard the disorganization and need for cleaning and organization of my shop.......otherwise you are certainly welcome.":D
 
Several Makers in socal. Red St Cere, Alex Felix, just to name a couple. Best bet is to do as JR said, get a knives 2008and maybe go to the meeting. Red used to have a forging clinic every march. He has since had to cancel due to cost.

Thanks to all for the contact information. I missed the California Knifemakers Association meeting but maybe can visit a future meeting.

Try the SCBlades meetings 1st Tuesday of every month in Lakewood.

Usually a few makers there (anywhere from 2 - 8 ), and the collectors there know most of the SoCal makers.
