I was looking at Benchmade Mini-Pika for an EDC. (I keep coming into situations where small knife would be handy and I still don't HAVE ONE!)

Im looking for the best quality around $20-40.

Durable solid feel. Non-Rusting is a plus.

Spring assisted another plus.

The Mini Pika is a very good knife, but for $40 you'd be better off with a Kershaw Storm or a Benchmade Monocrome.

You might look at the Kershaw Vapor or Vapor II. I got one at Wally mart a couple weeks ago and I'm really starting to like this knife. Paid 18.00 for it.
Smooth, tight, and just a little touch up on the blade and this thing is sharp..
The knife is thin too, don't even know its there.

wow only 4 posts and I already have some serious suggestions to consider.

What do you think about the Camillus - EDC? Any good? I like the looks of it. Similar to the monochrome suggested above.

Yes, it's quite good, but the Native, Storm and Benchmade has slightly better blade steel. Of course if you can hunt down an old 154CM version, go for it!

Storm I or II is a good choice. Wal Mart sells the Storm II for $30 and some change. I like mine a lot. Its a combo edge though. Newgraham.com sells the Storm I and II as well as several other knives in that range from both Kershaw, and Buck, Spyderco and many other companies. I personally prefer being able to get a knife hands on when at all possible. Its the nice thing about buying one at Wal-Mart or a brick and mortar dealer, which newgraham is but it only helps you if you are near there.

I'd suggest looking at the Spyderco Native at Wal Mart also. Its $40 and some change but a heck of a good knife with great edge retention for a knife that inexpensive.

I was eying the Byrd cara cara too.

Why does everyone keep saying spyderco native? What sets it apart. Just super strong steel? And does it matter if I choose the metal casing or plastic? Are they different? I kind of dislike pastic (does it have benifits?). Sorrrry N00b

OKAY pardon this totally noobie question youre ganna laugh at me but hey I gotta ask somewhere... What is the point of the holes commenly found in blades?

The hole in the blade is used for one handed opening. There is no such thing as a dumb question. I am glad that you asked. And Spyderco has the opening hole tradmarked. There are also other opening methods besides the hole; thumb studs, thumd disks, the Emerson wave, there are automatics (Auto's aren't legal in all places to carry.)

the hole is for you to pinch the blade between thumb and forefinger and then sort of do a shake move like you are shaking water off your hand and the knife pops open. only thing i carry now.

The spyderco Native is a 60 dollar made in the USA knife with was some consider the TOP steel being used in folders today, and it is sold at 40 bucks to make inroads for spyderco with the buying public.

The Pikal is a good knife. I personally do not care for the Kershaws, they seem to have to uneven heattreats. I have seen some great ones, but i have seen more than a couple that had tempers that were not much better than tin can grade...

I personally like the idea of buying USA for pocket knives. just my two cents, Spyderco has clearly marked which knives are made where as has benchmade. the Pikal is an offshore product.

Oh oh, I know, I know!!! G10 Cara Cara, fantastic knife and can be had for about $26 total (includes shipping). Haven't tried the G10 Meadowlark yet, but if it's anything like the Cara Cara, it'd be brilliant and measures in at a smaller 3 inches.

The G10 handles feel wonderful. Obviously just my opinion, but the great tactile feel of the knife in my hand is one of the important factors in what I EDC.
