I'm looking for a knife maker around the Tampa Fl area to make a custom knife project for me. Can any recomend someone for me.

I'm fom St. Pete. There are quite a few knifemakers in the area. What kind of project do you have in mind?

Thanks for the reply Joe, What do you specialize in, forging? Stock removal?
Do you heat treat your own blades?

Thanks

I am relatively new at this game and have not spent as much time as I should have doing it, so I will say that I TRY to forge and heat treat my own blade...lol. I'm using W2 for the majority of my stuff. I still have some leftover 5160 and 1075 and I use those still because i have a limited supply of W2........limited in that if i made 50 knives a year out of, i would have 4-5 years worth, but I may not be able to get more of this stuff down the road....:D The 1075 will eventually be used to try to make damsacus if I ever get my press set up. Like I said, you have a lot of guys in the area, so If I can't help you, there will be someone who can. If I may toot my own horn, the advantage that you have with me is that I am sloppy and slow, but CHEAP!!!:D

I live in Brandon/Seffner, but I am VERY new to this. I have finished 3 knives, and working on 20 to send to Mr Bos to get cooked. I am using 154CPM exclusively for now. I finished two skinner/hunters, and a fairly non flexible fillet knife(read the recent fillet knife thread). Now I cam currently working on a double ground dagger for my wife to use as a letter opener, two fillet blades, two skinners, three paring/bird and trout knives, three caping knives, a cutlass grind bowie(full tang), and another home brewed bowie stick tang. Oh, and another full tang clip point bowie with squiggly filework down the spine. All of em flat ground. But like I said, I have only been doing this for less than a year.

I make full tang fixed blades, usually out of A-2. Paul Bos does all my heat treating. If you are interested, you can see my work at www.jbknives.biz.
I am located in St. Petersburg, Fl.

There are a bunch of knife makers around Tampa. Cliff Parker is a good friend and a super knife maker if you like folders.

Ralph D'Elia just moved back to Tampa from Ft. Myers and is gonna be dedicating a lot more time to knives, both making and repairing, since the move. He can be contacted through his website www.ralphsknives.net. I EDC a barlow he made for me that's top notch.

Reese Weiland is one of those guys that can make anything you can think of. The wait will be long but worth it.
