Any Texans here edc a fixed blade?

Thanks for the reply cricket. All I have ever carried are folders. I was thinking of carrying a fixed blade. Looking for some ideas. I know the blade length limit in Tx is 5.5 inches

that size blade seems to work best for me, not too big but plenty of blade. I carry the hest fixed blade alot around the ranch its a great tool for ranch work.

I carry a Murray carter neck knife and a John Landi custom with a 3 & 1/2 inch blade all the time. On the weekends its my izula 2 and Landi bush shiv which has a 5inch blade. I have a murray carter white crane utility knife with a 5 inch super blue steel blade that i have been meaning to carry, but it is so sharp and pointy it has gone through two leather sheaths i had custom made for it.

I carry several different customs, a Rat 3, a BHK bushcrafter and a few others. Texas is so damn weapon friendly I have never gotten an odd look for anything I carry.

I guess in all the years I've lived in Tx I can't recall ever noticing anyone carrying a fixed blade on their belt. Maybe they were carrying IWB and i never saw it. Do most of you carry on your belt? { Other Than the neckers]

When I lived in Austin, I carried a Strider SA for a couple years. When I moved to Terlingua I rotated between a BM Nimravus Cub, a CRK GB 5.5 & a CRK Shadow III. There was a lull of folders only. I spent a winter completely cooking with wood... coffee, food, you name it. My best friend at the time was a Swamp Rat Warden. I tried a RAT RC-3 for a winter & am now carrying a CRK Nyala... my fav EDC fixed to date. Honestly though, I probably wear it one day every two weeks.

I was eyeballin that Nyala last night. I might have to pick me one up in the near future.

I carry my Spyderco Street Beat, Scrap Yard Street Scrapper 4, Swamp Rat Vexillarius, and Busse Active Duty on my belt all the time. I prefer a leather pouch sheath with about a mid ride height, that ususlly leaves just under half of the handle sticking above the belt line. The Street Beat seems to carry the best, it's such a BIG little knife.

I lived in Texas for a short while. While searching for a Texas legal knife, I found that the Becker BK2 to be the maximum legal blade. I have a Gerber LMF2, but never carried it in due to the bowie style swedge.

I'd recommend the BK2 if you want the largest legal fixed blade, or a BK14 for a small pocketable fixed blade.

I carry a tan Izula a lot at about 4o'clock on my belt, its usually mostly covered by my shirt. And its in a leather sheath so no one really seems to notice

I carry a Rat 3 in a horizontal position or my Eskabar, if I EDC a fixed blade. I also have an Izula II on hte way that will end up in my fixed blade EDC choices.

It's usually a Strider WP. I find that pretty much the ideal size for an EDC fixed Blade. Nyala are sweet also just prefer a kydex sheath.

BTW-- when measuring the length of the blade, some lAw enforcement agencies will measure not from hilt to tip, but will rather measure the cutting edge, which will sometimes put a knife under 5.5" linear measure over the legal length. I'm a defense attorney, and have run into this.

Man, so many great responses! I have alot of knives to research. Some great ideas here. The legal aspect was a concern. Thanks Bladefoolish for the advice.

Yikes! an overenthusiastic officer could measure a fully serrated blade to be much longer.:)

All kidding aside, I found Texas knife laws to be vague(no description on the measurement process, or what constitutes a "Bowie") and wasn't comfortable even when I was pretty sure that I was legal.
