Im looking to get my girlfriend a small knife for her keychain. something with one blade, less than 2 inches, the kind of lock doesnt matter, but a button lock might be good. she got herself something but its a little cheap junky thing and i cant stand the sight of it, shes even already managed to bend the blade. (its so thin that just looking at it makes it bend :barf:) she doesnt want anything big or that she would have to put in a pocket, and mostly uses it for cutting strings, opening letters and the occational tape on boxes, nothing too demanding. i looked around online, but i didnt see much that really fit the bill, so i figgured ide ask those that know more than i. Thanks for anything you can come up with. Casexxx

Any one of the smaller Victorinox SAK's with a keyring may fit the bill.

Vic Classic
Rambler
Executive
Broker
Bantam
Cadet (now available in multiple colors)
etc

Hope this helps.

The Leatherman Micra on a keychain is pretty handy. Gave one to the wife and she loves it, uses the scissors all the time.

Spyderco Cricket is a bizarre but worthwhile small knife:thumbup:

I have a Kershaw Chive and that's a little engineering marvel (it does come in colours other than pink too:D)

Thanks so far guys, im kinda leaning twards the Chive or the Vic classic. i think she would get a real kick out of a pink or rainbow chive, easy to open after getting a manacure haha (i love where some of MY money goes...) the vix classic is nice and i'll have to feel her out on what kind of knife she might want in that regard (i can just hear it now..."are we going camping or something?" haha) but if there are any more ideas let 'em flow my way. Thanks! casexxx

The Leatherman Squirt might also do well. Or a Benchmade Benchmite II. I think my vote goes to a full-size Rukus, though... It counts as a "petite" knife, right...?

After letting my ex look through a bunch of suggestions online, the two that she really liked the looks of were the CRKT P.E.C.K. and the A.G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knife. Ended up with the PECK and it's a very light duty cute little thing.

Just something else to look into if she doesn't want something as big as a micra/squirt on her keychain.

Kershaw Chive or Spyderco Ladybug. The Benchmade Benchmite has a button/levitator lock, but I think the chive and ladybug are better deals.

Haveing never closely examined a CRKT K.I.S.S or P.E.C.K in person, are they really as safe closed as they should be? i can just see there being a little thin gap between the blade and the handle, kinda like a thin kitchen slicer, and just shaveing off layers of a finger...if its really as secure as a regular folder, a P.E.C.K might be just what the doctor ordered. gonna have to get out and put all these side by side though

Woo hoo! trip to the knife store(s)! :D

Since you live in MA, I suppose you wouldn't consider a small auto. I think there are some small Microtechs and Protechs that come in colors. Of course that whole "your girlfriend going to jail due to a gift you gave her" thing could be a challenge.
all da best,
rats...

Well i dont know about going to jail over it. I used to have a Scallion before i lost it and i loved it. its "assisted opening". when you look at the deff. of an auto, its any knife that opens by gravity, inertia, or spring. assisted gets around that buy makeing you manualy open the blade, by acting on the blade itself, and generaly opening it about 30 degrees before the spring takes over. thus ist not spring alone that opens the blade. my favorite explination to people who said "thats a switchblade and those are illegal here" was "well they sell them at WALMART  " but that issue has been in the back of my mind.
