A good while ago I put together a PSK, and just recently took pics of it due to the contest. I know there are some fairly innovative an experienced rat packers, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips for my PSK.

That monkey fist on a keychain with pop can tabs on it has a bobber, fishing line, and sinkers in it.

These cards that come with RAT knives are great, I got one in the yellow box, one in the bag, and I keep the plastic one in my wallet. The plastic one has saved my butt a few times, especially coming home to find the door lock.

Also the bags, if you didn't just rip open, you could use to hold water. IMO sure beats the condom in the sock trick.

Some of the things I know I need to add to it is a decent compass, can't find where I left my old one, and some more means of fire starting besides just matches. I used to have some bic lighters but over time they've ran out of juice (fire works and making stuff with para cord mostly) and I've yet to get some more.

Any tips or recommendations greatly appreciated.

id suggest a bic lighter and maybe a firesteel for extra fire starting power. Also Id add some kind of first aid kit. I dont see one. Im not sure wat hat you wear, but I would throw a bandana in there somewhere if you don't already wear one. I also think some food is a good thing. Dog biscuits are a good choice. Have salt, and protein and such plus they taste like crap so you wont be tempted to eat them unless you really need food. Just some ideas on what I would have:)

My fist aid kit is a little hard to see, it is white container inside the yellow box, the top layer of band aids reflected the light off of the flash so its a little hard to see. I also have some steri-strips in there. I used to have some bics but over time I've used em up. :D Good idea on the dog biscuits, cause when I originally put the kit together I had some nature valley bars and trail mix and some other food, :o but like the bics I ended up going through them.

Yea, true, but if you use flavored condoms your survival water can be all minty.:D

One suggestion I have is to invest in a full sized multitool with all the bells and whistles.

Those skeletools are nice for a light weight EDC but they lack alot of very useful tools. I don't know what that other one is, can't tell from the pics but I was thinking it was one of the lower end versions which just don't hold up to even moderate use.

Yea the other is a cheapo but it has a led light and a pretty toothy saw, I use to have a full sized knock off that was gifted to me but I replaced it with the skeletool, thanks for the advice

I bit the bullet a while ago and got a Leatherman Juice XE6.

I wince a little if anyone asks how expensive it was (I meen good lord, I coulda got a Vic Super Tinker, AND a One Hand Trecker with money left over), but it blows the knockoffs I've had out of the water. I don't actually have any regrets.

It's a compact (but not light) tool that packs in pretty much everything including serrated blade, saw, file, awl and a really nice pair of scissors.

well that's my rambly two cents about multi-tools....

I think you should upgrade your main light.
The features and performance you can get now-a-days with even a relatively inexpensive LED light are just amazing.
I've got a 2" long CountyComm 1 AAA light that's brighter than my 2 D-cell Mag. :D

Hmmm my suggestions are leaning toward expensive'ish...
I have a really nice peice of kit that I think was <3 bucks. Bruton Ball Compass.

I've done some orienteering and I used to have one of the rectangular compasses with an arrow up top and a large compass, I believe the last time I got one it was at least 6 bucks, not too bad so next time I'm out if I remember I'll pick one up.

a few meters of wire and or duct tape can be very useful.

:D I don't have wire, but I do have a couple hundred or so feet of hemp and 50 feet of paracord. :o duct tape is another thing that I can't seem to keep enough of, so many uses so little time.

What Don said...Plus I would get rid of the book of matches opt for waterproof matches and a Bic Lighter and a RAT fire kit....

Thank you Tony!

Oh, and to correct a mistake, that is a LMF Swedish Fire Steel. LMF = Light My Fire, with all respect given to Mr. Morrison.

:D No need to make a Christmas list now, Don did it for me . They'll be a little big, but I'll probably end up putting an MRE or two in there instead of those bars, I usually win some playing paintball with a ret. Major. We go to his house so towards the end of the day well usually have a competition and winner gets and MRE or tshirt.

not sure... you'll have to bring it to Fall Castle and let me check it out.. :D

You headed there? I am trying to get down there... Nice kit, but I can think of anything Don didnt already suggest :D

Don made a great list.
Only thing no one mentioned is to get a Knives Ship Free fire kit. Not cheap, but with it, and add the K&M Matchsafe stuffed with the REI matches and a Bic, if you can't start a fire, you deserve to die. :D

reviewing this again,1st pic is blurry but I'd Get rid of the Winchester gut hook knife ASAP , not being negative bro just looking out for ya !
