Any tips on reconditioning my bandsaw?

CL made a good point, that it may be more trouble than it's worth, but if I can't trade this Inca bandsaw then maybe I can get it running for not too much. It needs a motor, I can handle everything else. It has a drive belt already, although I guess depending on what size drive wheel I went with I could have to replace it. What I need to know is what type of motor to look for, where to get it (salvage, if so, from what?), what size drive wheel to use, where I'd get that, and any other tips. A friend just got a table saw from a yard sale and the motor would work perfectly, but I can't very well just yank it off of his new find! Anyway, any tips would be appreciated. If you're in the area and want to take a look at it to see about a trade, let me know...

Try to find information in a back issue of fine woodworking. It's going to take some searching ,maybe posting in woodworking places but they did some great stuff on bandsaws a while back. Chiro, if you have a friend that has access to a machine shop you can make an old clunker saw run better than anything on the market.

Try Parts Company of America.

I have a fax from them on an old band saw and it shows an exploded view and all the part numbers and operating instructions. The fax is from back in 1994. I'm not sure if they are still around but it's worth a shot.

I bought a wood cutting bandsaw and
slowed it down for metal. Put on a metal
cutting blade and it works fine. If you need help email me or post it here.

Are you thinking about a friction cutting band saw? If you are you will need a blade speed of 5000 -YES 5000 feet per minute and if you want to cut material over 5/32 you will probably need a 2 horse power motor other wise a one horse power will probably work which is just great for making liner locks. If you want more info. on pulley sizes etc. let me know. You will probably need to use a 1/2" blade at the narrowest but boy is this a handy machine to have! Frank.
