any tough folders under $100

Basically every options has been stated. So I'll just give another  to the Benchmades.

You should easily be able to find a slightly used Spyderco Paramilitary for under $100.

As all folders are compromises I think you will find that the Paramilitary makes all of the right ones. It is also tough as heck and should easily shrug off a beating. There are glowing reviews of the Para all over the internet as well as here and may give you a sense of the kind of great knife it is.

Just make sure you baton with your knife unlocked from now on..... Although its not the best idea in the first place... I have had to do it... And that is the best way to do it.. Without hurting the lock one bit...
Take it easy
Matt

The BM950's blade is a little thinner than the Griptilian if I'm not mistaken, so may not be worth the extra $$ over the Griptilian to you. You get better fit & finish, better handle material, different blade shape but may not be necessarily tougher. It's a high performance cutter though, no doubt.

If you like Benchmades, the Presidio is tough and I think is around the same price as the BM950. The Rukus is even better but will probably cost too much

I have successfully batoned with an old beaten up benchmade 710 at work. This was basically making shims out of 2x2's when there wasn't anything else around that would do the job faster. I don't recommend batoning with any folder but if there's a lock that will hold up to it it's an axis.

Baton with a fixed blade. . .a folder, you are asking for trouble. I think the guys here are basically steering you right, so no other opinion forthwith.

Spyderco Endura with G10 handle. Costs about $89 up here. Probably the #1 folder carried by Law enforcement professionals in this area but should stand up to most any application.

what do people think about the BM 950? would that be worth the extra $$?

I just got a 950 a couple weeks back, but had to sale it to raise some money. If not for that I would still have it and probably be rotating it in my edc's. I let it go because it was "low-man" on the totem pole!

But if you are willing to spend the extra I would definately look at, and go with a ZT0200 or ZT0500. For the money I don't think you will find a better folder!
