Just curious. I read on some posts people carrying a couple of folders at a time. Just wondering if their was any legeal trouble, and why.

Legal trouble depends on:

1) the jurisdiction,
2) any restrictions on the knives themselves,
3) what you're doing to attract the attention of law enforcement.

I often carry a neck knife, a tactical folder, and a SAK. If I have a new acquisition of any sort, I probably have that with me, too. If I'm going for a walk in the woods, I might bring a fixed blade or a Very Large Folder, also :)

It was just be an endura, and a buck northshore. haven't decided if I like the northshore yet, and wouldn't want to go without a knife I know I like, like the endura.

Let's see right now I have a Custom Crawford, a Dozier, a Gerber, 3 Spydercos,a Kershaw, and an SAK, that's more than 2 and I've had the local LEO check 'em out, but than again I live in the country, it's like Esav says,

"Legal trouble depends on:

1) the jurisdiction,
2) any restrictions on the knives themselves,
3) what you're doing to attract the attention of law enforcement."

Add to that what you look like.

Make sure your intended carry knives are legal to carry in your little part of the world.
If you are minding your own business and not causing any kind of trouble or doing any other thing to attract LEO attention then there should be no problem.
I've been carrying two (or more) knives for years. I've had LEO contact on several occassions and never been hassled over it.

I carry in full view of any who care to look.
That is, when carrying folders I keep my shirt tucked in so folders clipped to my pocket are in plain view. Same thing when carrying a fixed blade and a folder.

Clipped knives riding at the tops of pants pockets are so common now(Thanks SPYDERCO!) that virtually everyone that sees one knows what it is. It's been years since I've been asked "What is that hanging off your pocket?"

As for my personal reason for carrying one handed opening folders on the left and right side, I got fed up with holding something that needed to be cut and having to put it down to fetch a knife to cut it. Having a knife on both sides just made sense for me and it's just become a part of who I am. I would no sooner go out without a pair of knives on me than I would without a pair of pants. :o

The bottom line is I've never heard of any law that limits the number of knives a person can carry on his/her person at a given time. Such a restriction would be ludicrous anyway. How would it serve the public interest?
If the idea of carrying two knives appeals to you, then do it as long as the knives themselves are legal in your neck of the woods.

All the best,

I didn't think their would be a problem...I'm on the midcoast of Maine, where my boss carries the RATK, as well as a folder, and no trouble. Its legal here. I often carry my HR and a folder but HR is down for the moment. So I have nothing but folders.

same here. i'm in Northern Maine and everything's pretty legal and tolerated, for the most part.

i sometimes carry my Spyderco Dodo, Calypso Jr, and my Ka-Bar/Dozier Folder together @ once. and that's in addition to my Becker Necker or Arclite that i carry around my neck. (i actually carry less when camping/hiking)

i'll eventually filter out what i don't find useful for EDC tho. but the Dodo can't be beat for opening building supplies or boxes. the Calypso Jr cuts like magic. the Ka-Bar/Dozier usually is the knife i hand out, but i use it when something ugly comes up. and the Becker Necker or Arclite are what i go to when i can't access my pockets easily. often when climbing ladders or something.

i've only had a couple officers pay much notice to them, and they recognized the Spyderco brand and thought it was nice to see a citizen prepared. not to say that's the norm' tho. most LEO's around here are jackasses, in my opinion. not much to do up here, really.

I would be confident carrying just about ANY type of knife on me regardless of local law (I.E. Autos, 4"+, etc) however I feel once you add a second knife to the equation, that tool I just had now looks like I am carrying weapons  :(

I carry one quality auto on my person, and maybe one on my keychain. Thats enough

I ALWAYS carry at-least 2 folders (and a couple of multi-tools), and I don't give a damn...They are ALL legal.

Your behavior and appearance do matter. I was home from work, in a collared shirt and slacks, with a small-of-back sheath with a small fixed blade. It's a 3" blade, Neil Blackwood Miami Ninja. It was unconcealed. At the car wash, I ran into a state trooper who was getting his unmarked car washed. He obviously saw it, but didn't say anything. According to others I got lucky.
I don't normally carry 2 folders, I usually go for a small fixed blade and a folder. Sometimes I will carry a big folder in a belt sheath, and a small "sheeple friendly" or gent folder in my pocket, if I'm going to need a heavy knife at work for cutting zip ties. A snipper works better on zipties, but I never seem to be able to find one...they keep getting 'borrowed'.

I've always got a small Sebenza in my wallet, an Umfaan in my left front pocket and an SNG or lg Sebenza clipped in my right. And if I'm out, then there's also the Jester on my keychain. I pretty much NEVER see any other folders clipped in pockets around here (Long Island NY), but my own have never gotten me any strange looks -- even on the playground with my 1-yr old and countless mothers around.

I've never run across a law that restricts the number of knives you can carry, just what types and where you carry them.

Mostly I carry a fixed blade, and a small folder, for smaller jobs. Especally at work, where everything seems prone to disaster. Never had any problem with LEO with that combo, long as they can see it.

If I don't feel the need for a fixed blade, I go with spyderco. Pretty much how it works today. Fall out of bed, look at the knife mag strip....and think "okay....whats gonna go wrong today, and what do I need?"

I carry 2. A main, plain edge knive (lately a Benchmade 42 balisong, 4.2" blade, or a 3.5" MT Scarab once it gets repaired) in my right, front pocket, plus a fully serrated Spyderco Pacific Salt (4" blade) inside my wasteband at about 4:00. It was weird carrying IWB at first, but now I forget it's even there. I often also include a Victorinox Cybertool 41, which hangs from a belt loop in my right front pocket via a pull-apart keyring. My actual keyring is a Leatherman Sqirt S4.

There isn't much that isn't legal in Arizona (and you can get a permit for anything else), and I've never gotten any hassle. In fact, I'm thinking of adding yet another knife to my daily arsenal(?), a light 2" auto like the Protech Sidekick III Wharcliffe or Benchmade 3100 to carry in my change pocket.

The thing is, I carry each knife for different purposes. The plain edge gets used for normal work. The serrated knife gets used for messy, gunky, crude work. I open/dismantle boxes, food prep bags, string/rope, etc. It's my worker/abuser knife. The plain edge knife I keep totally clean and razor sharp to be used on things that need precision instead of just a crude cut. The point of all this being that I can easily justify (not that I need to justify doing something that is perfectly legal) having these knives on me if I need to--ie: stopped by police. Assuming you can reasonably explain to anyone who needs explaining to (cop, your boss, etc) why you need 2 blades, you shouldn't run into any hassle, assuming the knives themselves are legal, and you're not doing anything illegal at the time.

I've never heard of laws limiting the number of knives you can carry, but some might exist. You never know what laws nut will pass, so check your state and local laws. I carry 3 folders as EDC, one clip-on folder in the right and left front pockets (some Spyderco knives have reversable clips) and a SAK on the keychain.

When the legislature is in session I spend a fair amount of time at the capitol and have had no problem going in and out with the pair of delicas that I normally carry. If asked why two I showw that one is serrated and one is plain and no one has said anything at all.
I grew up in Maine and despite being a punk loud mouth kid I never got into any trouble regarding the knives I carried.
Wish I was there now as Florida's Fall isn't exactly picturesque. Though it has cooled off, down in the low eighties.

Sam

As long as each knife is legal, I don't see any problem--assuming you are not otherwise engaged in some sort of dubious behavior. ;)

I wouldn't pack a fixed blade in jersey--and I'm pretty sure you can't (when not afield)--especially when there are so many good folder options. Did he not bust you because you were well dressed? Who knows. He's got stuff to do, and an arrest means a lot of time and paperwork. How do you know he saw it, if you were facing him?
