Hi,

I've been getting a hankerin' for a Tuxedo. And I haven't seen any in these parts for a long time!

So show'em off, please!!

Dale

I have one! :D

I need to take a new picture, I have a few more now.

Hi,

Yeah, you could say you have "one"!!! I like the 4 in the middle. Though the black and yellow one on the left is intriguing.

Do you carry one every once in a while?

Dale

Yes, I carry them sometimes, but I have had a Camillius crawl out of my watch pocket and escape, so I have to watch them pretty close when I carry them. Here's an updated picture.

Left to right: Robeson, Case, what looks like IOVC - tang stamps are pretty worn, CC Manufacturing Co., three Imperials, tuxedo whittler - tang stamps too worn to make out, Wisman, Camillus salesman's sample - the other side is smooth wood, Camillus in waterfall celluloid, Ulster in ebony, Camillus in jigged Delrin, Camillus imitation pearl, DIC, Argyle, Valor, NANO (my first knife), C.C.C. Japan, no name from Japan, tang stamps too worn to make out on the next two, Germania Cutlery Works, Broch & Koch, unstamped, R.C. Co., Queen (thanks, Gary!).

Jack, that is some collection.
Any chance of an in-hand pic of one? I can never get a feel for the size of knives I haven't handled.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I can see how one might sneak away without you noticing.
Neat little knives.

Hi,

Man, that is a nice group. I think I've got a Camillus #49 snagged.

Like the Congress, I think they are a very elegant pattern. A knife to be found in a Gentleman's vest pocket. Not that I'm a "Gentleman" in any way or form. And I seldom wear a suit, with or without a vest.:) I'm just another cranky old machinist.

I do really like the Camillus Salesman sample in your pictures. The blue stripes really pop. Is it MOP or just celluloid?

Dale

I really don't know. It has enough fire to it to make me think MOP. It certainly has a lot more fire than the cracked ice celluloid/imitation MOP Camillus in the lineup.

Hi,

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. It seems to have that glow about it that says MOP. It really sets off the blue.

Dale

I don't really know that much about them. I know the pattern dates back to at least the late 1800's as I've seen them as old as 1870. Probably a "Sunday go to church" knife/gentleman's vest pocket knife. Most are about the right size for sharpening a quill pen or opening envelopes. You can do a little whittling with one if you are bored and have a high enough pain threshold, but those dinky little handles are pretty hard to do much with.

As for manufacturers, my little collection shows almost two dozen, and it is by no means exhaustive.
