I have been experimenting with (yet) another material and I need another tester (aka guinea pig) to have go at it. The pieces I have are rolled and compressed felt, light blue and light grey. Size is approximately 5 x 1-3/4 x 3/16, and quanity is two. I do not anticipate any issues, it is solid and sands nicely, but I would like an objective opinion. My home computer is out of order just now so no pics.
Basic deal is:
Use ASAP
Post pics of the end product
Post impressions/ review
Make sure you are OK with the colors (kinda like Detroit Lions/ Dallas Cowboys colors) before you ask, please. I would like for it to end up on a knife, so if you can picture those colors on one of your blades, it may be your lucky day.
I have one set available, and shipping is on me.
First "I'll take it" gets it, then PM or email me your mailing address.
Thanks!

might be hard to find a taker with that size. seems most folks could only make one side of a handle. In the future it might be better to make longer sizes if possible, or make 2, or make it twice as thick, any of these would make for 2 handle sides.

But with it going for the whopping price of "free" i'm sure someone will snag it.

D'OH!:o

it is for a pair

I'll fix that just now...thanks!

Been waiting for the pics from the last batch you gave away. If you ever attempt to match military acu colors give me a shout, am currently starting a knife for my son who is headed for kosovo and having no luck with handle material to match his uniform. Keep up the good work.

rkwalker: What is your time frame? I won't be able to press anything new for a week or so, but I'd be happy to start looking for the right colors (brown, gray and green?), and discuss patterns.

Shadetree appreciate the response. If it works out that would be great. I just started design and will take about month to finished product (want to experiment with some design things) He leaves in Sept and wanted to take one I made him for xmas but it was only the second one I had made so want to get him something more durable. email through profile or I will list here if needed. thx

Here is a knife with some of Todd's composite.
The stuff works pretty easily and finishes out easy.
This is red canvas, the pattern show better in person.
Also this is a new damascus pattern I'm playing with.

This might be a stupid question, but could you use fabric with the same camo pattern as the uniform, or would that end up looking weird?

Good work on all your stuff, by the way. Those slabs look very unique.

DrT88,
Not a stupid question at all, and it is an option. The main problem is the pattern on a lot of fabrics do not go all the way through, so I am limited to cutting strips and stacking them up. I find this labor intensive and a PITA. Also, the slab can only be oriented one way. The same problem is had with denims. Notice how the inside of your jeans are much paler on the inside. I think aesthetically I can get nicer/ bolder patterns using solid colors and creating a pattern rather than trying to "bring out" an existing pattern. That being said I will continue to experiment with patterned fabrics.
Thanks fo the input!
