never can have too many watches....just like knives

I was given one of those Chinese Steinhausens a number of years ago. It was a steaming pile of crap, of course, which gained about six minutes a week and died within two years.

However, I liked the look of it, and it did serve to kindle an interest in mechanical/auto watches.

So now I've been looking at Orient and Seiko. I'd really like a strap watch with Roman numerals, but I can't find anything but metal bracelet diver styles (nothing wrong with those, but I want something different).

only just begun with the recent purchase of my 1920 made Zenith pocket watch (90 years going strong)...I am more into pocket watches then wrist, just a more elegant item from simpler times I guess.

A gents slipjoint finished and sold along side the watch that was left to me when My grandfather passed away. Its a Ball, not sure whom made it. Starr 18 karat gold filled case. Not sure how many jewels, 19 ?

I think a GSAR might be my next watch, but not for a few years.

Beautiful watches everyone. I personally have great interest in watches but not the money to collect them. My only "real" watches are my Tissot
PR50 automatic, which im never without, and an old gold plated Poljot hand wind I found in a box of junk watches. I would take pictures but i cant find the cable to my camera.

that slipjoint watch combo looks great! i'd love to get a matching gents knife to go with my pocket watch...stunning pocket watch though, have you had it serviced and appraised? even if you dont get it appraised I make a habit of getting my PW serviced regularly to avoid running the watch dry.

jump over to watchuseek.com forum and their are guys who could tell you alot about your watch.

I've been pretty pleased with mine, it defo feels like a real tough rugged
watch. It's a nice change after all the Tags I wear most of the time.

I even sold mine and bought it back off the guy because I missed it. :p:foot:

Robert,

I had it serviced about 20 years ago:eek: I guess time flies. I did not know the right questions to ask as the watch had a crack in the crystal when I took it in. He replaced it with a cheap plastic crystal. I want to have that replaced and the watch properly serviced. Even the though the watch runs ok , the stem, when winding is a bit "funky" feeling.

By the way , your Zenith is a wonderful example of the watch makers art. Solid gold case?

no, its 10k gold filled (aka rolled gold)...a solid gold cased zenith is in the works, just not enough money :p

if you source a new crystal it will significantly raise the value and feel of the watch imo, and a fresh service will give you piece of mind nothing is grinding on the inside and it should go strong another 20 years.

I have too many, but always looking at new ones. I am in the process of getting my Omega Speedmaster Pro Manual rebuilt. The bill for that will probably be pretty ugly. I have been looking at the Tissot Pro, and sure do like some of those Breitlings-esp the Emergency. I wish Tissot would put a Solar cell in theirs. I have an 12 year old Suunto X-Lander that has been a very good watch for me.

Ozy - I like the second one from the top; what is it?

Thank you, It's a Steinhart Nav B-UHR (44MM) Automatic..its a Homage to the Pilots watch during WWII, usually built to 55mm diameter, to be easily visible and worn over flight suits.
These days, the more expensive ones (Laco etc) are built to 47-48mm which is still too large for my wrists.
This is built in a more wearable 44mm, which is still large (many have commented) but not ridiculous.

Swiss made movements Automatic or Handwound Movements, and a nice array of different styles in their catalogues, but I chose the simple design of this for its accuracy in style to the first Pilots watches

I just ordered this beauty here:

It's a Seiko SBDC003, aka "Sumo". Can't wait for it to arrive, though I'll have to hold my horses for 3 looooooooong weeks .
But I'll survive :p.

Did you receive your Sumo, LUW?

I received my two Orients 3 days ago...IMHO, they are a LOT of watch for the money!

I'll second the Mako!
Great watch for a very decent price. The other option I think would be the Seiko Monster, for basically the same amount as the Mako, but I guess I'm one of the few human beings on planet Earth that doesn't like the looks of the watch . Aesthetics not withstanding, I have to say the Monster is more of a tool watch then the Mako - if you actually plan on diving with the watch, go with the Monster.

I am getting a Blue Mako for my birthday. I have seen it (was not supposed to), awesome watch for the money.
