Any way out of this mess?

Yeah at first I was hoping to possibly avoid it. However the more I think about it the better the option sounds.

I gave away the first fifty knives I made.

Post us a pic when you get the new scales on.:)

poster you and i don't know each other but someone already suggested using flared tube instead !! if the hole is just under 1/4 use a 1/4 stainless or brass tube , use a countersink on both sides pre flare 1 side check for fit cut other side allowing enough material to flare .. try it on a scrap piece before you pass on the idea ..what ya going to loose ??
i know 1 maker that flares all of his handles on and it look's pretty good when done correctly .

Alternately, if you choose to go with pins as some folks have suggested, and your hole was drilled at 1/4", but a 1/4" rod won't fit...your rod stock may be slightly oversized. Take a piece long enough for a pin plus a good bit, chuck it up in a cordless drill and spin it while you hold some sandpaper against it. Try to fit it. If it doesn't fit, take a little more off, etc. until it fits snugly.

This is similer to what I do alot, to make things fit with my limited materials.
