Any wood handle Moras with SS blades?

I am a long time Mora fan and have quite a few of them.

All of mine are carbon steel, but i hear the SS versions are no slouch either.

I want to buy my father a Mora for father's day. He runs a locomotive for the RR and I think a classic wood handled Mora would look right at home snapped over the button of his overalls. Problem is I worry he won't care for the carbon steel. On a fishing trip recently we took a break on the shore of the lake and I killed a little time whittling some wood with my Mora 2/0. He was impressed by how effortlessly that little knife carves curls off wood.

I have never seen the wood handled versions offered in SS, am I correct in assuming they don't exist?

collim1,

Classic Scout 39 has a wooden handle/ stainless steel combo. It does have guards which I would grind off in a heartbeat. The Forest Lapplander 95 also matches your wood/stainless criteria but is quite different from the traditional Mora styles.

The Forest Exclusive 277 has a laminated blade as does the classic Original 1.

Cheers!

Ben

Hi OP
Lots of knives can carve curls off soft wood if well ground, but does your father really need such a knife ?
Though he was impressed by the sharpness of your mora.

A couple of SS Mora's in wood - Classic #1 and Classic Scout 39,

Or get a SS blank and carve your own! Great Father's Day gift!

A classic Original #1 or #2 would be just a treat for your Dad. He don't care for the steel ? Our grandfathers and ancestors worked their way through life with simple carbon steel blades. As long as they were sharp nobody got upset about a spot of rust (or two...). An excellent knife may rust, but it will still be an excellent knife and deliver what you expect. Seems to me your Dad has got it right about knives. Classic Original is the way to go.

Classic Original or No 1 it is then. I don't think he has a preference, I was concerned about the carbon steel for him at work. He is mostly retired now and runs a steam locomotive giving tours at a railroad museum. All that hot humid air near him I figured stainless might be a good choice to prevent rusting.

Thanks for the ideas. Travis, I have always planned on buying a few blade blanks and seeing what I can do. I actually have a set of antlers I cut off a buck I killed last year just for the purpose, just don't think I am ready to do it right yet.
