**Any word on the Buck Strider SNG?

What he is trying to say guys is they are making a knife similar to the SnG but more affordable. Plenty of LEOs and Military would like to have a Strider knife but can't afford it. I'm looking forward to get one soon beat it to hell and not worry about losing my SnG.

I will get the pics up ASAP. I just have to figure out how to post them on this site. I am having Shelby Chan shoot our official pics, but I shot a few with our digital to give you guys a sneek peak.

More to follow soon,

Thanks for your patience.

Josh

Thanks for all the infos, is the knive also avialable without serrations? It does look excellent! It's a must!
Could a picture of the liner be posted?

Aw nut's, it's not full flat grind.

Sorry guys, no disrespect but it's looking less like an SNG all the time.

Guess I got caught out by the great work you did on the Buck/Mayo and the fact that it was called an SNG. In fact the only way it resembles an SNG is purely in the sihloette, no other characteristics of the SNG at all :(

I can understand not using the same expensive handle materials.
I can just about understand not having the same lock type as it's intergral with the handle.
I can maybe understand not having the same blade steel (even though you have used S30v before).
But to not even have the same horizontal blade profile, and hence a different cutting characteristic is pushing it a bit far whilst keeping the same name

If you had called it something different like the Buck/Strider SNV (V for varient) I could have been more accepting.

Ok I retract most of what I just said, I see from Usual Suspects that although you are calling it SNG-like, you are refering to it as the "SBT".

Still, without the full flat grind it isn't a knife for me.
Pity I was looking to get a couple as presents, but a thick sabre grind like this (although strong) just loses too much of it's slicing power when compared to full flat.

I might try to get one of these. The price is right and I need a good knife to grab for jobs when I am too much of a 'fraidy cat to use my expensive blades on. Currently that "dirty job" knife is an old buck lightning in ATS-34 combo edge. It has been one of the best knives I have ever bought, mainly because it is the most used one I have. Looks like this could replace it. :) Please advise when available for purchase. Any chance of EMS being able to get the discount or is it strictly LEO discount?

I wish buck used G10 instead. Is the knife the same size as a strider sng?

I think $150 is high for zytel.

Its kind of disappointing in calling it an "SNG" when it obviously is not. It should not have been called a Buck/Strider SNG doing so leads customers to believe that the knife is an exact copy but with say ATS34 steel instead of S30V or some other cut back on materials to make a more affordable "SNG" for the LEO's or people with less spending money but need great gear.
The Buck/Striders 880 and 880SP are different than AR or GBs but you could never call them that its not the same knife in any shape.

Plastic handles are hard to take also I can't see the reason for not using G10 unless its going to be a VERY low price point.

The Buck/Strider collaboration knives could be heading downhill with this matter.

Even so I will get my hands on one for testing and if I like it it gets into the EDC rotation if not I would be selling it off. Sadly I have been dissapointed in the current offerings from Strider Knives but have totally LOVED my BUCK MAYO now thats a freakin great collaboration... also I would never get rid of my Buck Strider 880 SP another great knife.

I just wonder if people will be turned off by calling it an "SNG" and finding out its not a frame lock and there are major differences in the knife. The Buck Mayo is very near a real Mayo the only difference in the the real one and the Buck are very slight IMO, the biggest being price and time to get one.

I hope Buck and Strider change the name how about a name contest????

I would call it the 900 since we have the 880 880SP and the 800 Soltion or how about the BUS900 ?

Anyway lets hear some name suggestions not "SNG" though.

They already said the name is not SnG. I have heard it called the SBT for now, because its a Strider Buck Tarani collaboration. The number code that I have seen is 882.

Once again, the $150 is the MSRP.

Shelby Chan has already posted a awesome photo of this knife, but I am no longer a gold memeber and am unable to post it.

OH so its the SBT thats cool!

Strider Buck Tarani

I like that name better if they did dub it SNG it would be wrong.

I viwed the pic and read the post "over there" and it does seem to be a really cool knife. $150.00 seems right for regular store MSRP probably you will find it lower on net and e-bay for sure.

It doesnt just have to be someone from over there, any gold member I can email the photo to and have them post, or anyone with access to a server.

Hey guys, try not to get hung up on a name. People have referred to this thinf for a while as a SB SNG because we never came out with the name. It is similar in overall profile, but has some significant differences.

Less expensive materials- These were all picked by Duane to meet certain criteria given him by Steve Tarani and the law enforcement community. The idea was to create a knife that was affordable to every LEO out there. All the knife gurus can still buy a Strider SNG, if they are worried about materials. In reality they don't make much of a difference in performance. Lets address them.

Stainless Steel Liners- stronger than titanium but not as corrosive resistant (PM your gear)

Glass Reinforced Nylon Scales- Time tested and effective knife handle. G10 is great, but is expensive and isn't necessary for an effective knife.

ATS-34 vs S30V- According to Duane, "In the field you could not tell the difference in performance of the two steels. I personally agree. From my own experience Blade steel is irrelevant as long as its been properly exploited and you maintain your gear.

Final word,

This is a production knife, designed to fill a very specific role. It was designed by Strider to meet these exacting requirements and was then built by Buck. More versions of SB's will be forthcoming with higher end materials, this isn't the be all end all knife. For those of you collectors who must have the high end stuff, Strider would be happy to sell you a SNG or MARSOC.

Thanks,

Josh

Thanks for posting the pic, Shelby is the man.

$150 MSRP means you could probably get it for under $100 if you're patient and find the right retailer. Even with the downgrade in materials, it's 25% of the price of an SNG. Stainless steel liners with zytel scales are understandable at this pricepoint. And if the ATS-34 is still HT'd by Paul Bos, it's performance will be very good, practically indistinguishable from S30V as Josh said. I still wish it were full flat-grind, though.

What lock does it use? Will it have a non-serrated blade option?

Liner lock.

The hollow on this blade grind was designed by Duane to leave a sizeable texturing surface on the blade. This conforms to Steve Tarani's training doctrine for Federal Law Enforcement of two hand deployment at contact range.

The serration is on all the SBT's to conform with LEO carry policy. Duane designed the serration with .190" of chisel edge between the serration and the choil to prevent the serrations from snagging or breaking. They are there to cut fibrous materials such as seatbelts and rope.

Sometime next year we will have versions of the "SNG like knife" catering to more military use and some for everyday carry.

Keep the questions coming guys,

Josh

Josh,
In retrospect I got a little wig out going on the name but that PIC is worth a thousand words. I like the design it utilizes an SNG body style but with added features. The Tarani opening method and texturing the blade for this method is a SUPER thumbs up and a great insight into the design.

I also give you guys high marks for heat treating the ti liners to improve lock up and wear factors on the currently new offering of the BU880 880SP series!

I really do like the fact that you guys Strider and Buck are making things more affordable for the average user. I spent over $1200.00 dollars on Strider folders and sold them off... returning to my used 3 year old BU880 SP Buck.Strider. The reasons for this move are my own but I do appreciate the approach by Strider Knives to maintain the honor and make a great knife with Buck, and not cut corners.

I do agree with Duane about knife steels hell with proper care 5160 knives will work in the field, I also can't tell the difference between my ATS34 Buck Strider Steel or the GB S30V steel which I sold off to fund more Buck Strider collab purchases.

Thanks
