Any Word on the Mini Military yet?

PLEASE make it with an ambi clip! I love spyderco knives and hate that I can't enjoy many of the higher end models because of this blatant anti-lefty discrimination! ;) :)

Cool!

May I suggest a colour...blue, dark blue, it's cool, calm and beautiful! It's my favourite colour.

Good luck,
JD

great news.

ahem, Sal, I know what you think about blade-coatings,
but a green blade would be sooooo coool. :D

Stick with G10. It is much more stable than micarta in all weathers. Green is fine. How about a tiger stripe or subtle camo pattern?! It is after all conducive to "military" applications. :) But whatever color is used, it must be rough blasted for serious use. Don' t want to send it out to have it checkered!;)

Great name Sal!

S30v or Vg10 would both be excellent!

Stick with G-10, green would be good but I've seen some weird 'greens' out there too. Orrrrrrrr, desert tan G-10:D I have a Mike Obenauf custom in desert tan G-10 and it looks great!

Compression lock, excellent!

And I still believe a plain edge or a 70/30 (70% plain/30% serrated) blade would be the mot useful;)

Please consider using the Tan G-10 (if you don't want to use carbon fiber)

Although green/olive G-10 is a nice change from black, the Tan has a less military appearance for non-military users, like me.

Blade steel choice - anything other than 440V.

Handle material: G-10 or CF would be great. Definitely do not want FRN.

Handle color: a dark or bold blue or green would be cool, but black is great also.

Steel choice: Hmmm, I don't think I'd go so strong as to say ANYTHING but 440V, as I sure wouldn't want AUS-8, ATS-55, and the like. My vote is for VG-10 or S30V, although I'd like to hear more about the relative merits of either steel.

I like the idea of tan G10 a lot. Blend well with the khakis that I live in these days. Still also very much like the idea of a dark navy blue.

VG10 would be very cool, but I have been very happy with ATS-55 and could live with that.

Sal -

I'm mostly a lurker, but I have to give my vote to desert tan G-10 scales. I promise I'll buy a couple.

What would be the blade length? Would it be just under 3 inches, like the Calypso jr for example?

By the way, there is a size between 2 and 3 inches that has been forgotten lately, and it is the size of the older Bob Terzuola C19, or maybe the Michael Walker. This is an interesting size, as well..

IIRC, the blade length was going to be 3.25 inches and the handle only slightly smaller.

Agree that the 2.5 - to sub-3 inch range has been a bit wanting for fresh designs. I am finding that 2.75 inches overall blade length seems to be a good one for my EDC. But the current line-up is lacking much choice since the Worker was scratched.

From the first mention of this project many moons ago :), Sal had indicated that the smaller Military would not really fall into the "Jr." category. But rather it would be a slightly "chopped off" at both ends version. Not just a smaller handle and shorter blade length. I hope this is still the case for many times there comes a "jr." model, all too often it is much smaller than the original.

Costas,

The Paramilitary is proposed with 3.25" blade.

Have a look at the new Salsas below: 2.5" blade.

A 3/4 size Military with green G10 handles and S30V blade? Man, Imagonnabuyseveral!

Carbon fiber scales are a must. I'll take a plain and a serrated. and a G-10 to carry.

OD/Desert Tan G10 scales (Grippy!)
VG10 and/or S30V steel
Compression Lock
Full flat grind
Tip up/down & Lefty/Righty configs
black clip

I'm there.
