Anybody but you ever get cut with your knife?

My friends and girlfriend haven't cut themselves with any of my knives because they're fully aware that I sharpen as a hobby. However, I'm always thinking they might one day, because they all hold it like the knives are about to explode. The tought of the knives being so sharp makes them hold them in the weirdest ways, all limp and akward.

Somewhere around here there's a thread on the subject of horror stories of lending people your knives. I remember that there were quite a few tales of accidental bloodletting in it.

My wife cut herself on my old Gerber EZ Out, testing the edge for sharpness.
Another friend picked up my Kershaw Avalanche without asking, and had no idea what an assisted-opening knife was. He got cut on the blade while opening it.
My other friend cut himself on my Boker Subcom, after exclaiming "What are you gonna cut with that?!"
His fiancee cut herself with my large Kabar Dozier, trying to flip it from reverse grip to hammer grip.
My daughter cut her finger with my Victorinox Classic (the scissors) while trying to remove a hangnail. Mom was supervising.

I took a brand new Buck folder into work once to break it in. Somebody asked to look at it and assured me they "knew" knives. He looked it over, seemed pretty impressed, then depressed the lock release and SWUNG the blade downward....right on top of 2 fingers holding the handle.
No stiches necessary, but he bled quite a bit. Nowadays, I very rarely let someone "check out" my toys, lol.

I was exhibiting at the Adelaide Custom Knife Show in Sth Australia and had a bloke start flicking a fixed blade from hand to hand. After the usual warning, he opened his thumb up, then came THE question, "Why is it so sharp" ????????? HELLO its a knife.
Must have impressed him, he bourght it

I loaned my CS Ti-Lite to my father so he could trim off a few threads on his pants. He asked me if this knife was sharp, and before I could reply he nicked his thumb accidentally on it. At least it wasn't too serious :P

Ten minutes ago I cut my thumb with the spyderhole on the new endura. Edges were not completely finished.
Did I cut myself with the blade of the knife? Once when was closing my Griptilian it cut my pinky a little bit. This is mostly it. My friend dropped a knife on his leg once. There was a lot of blood...

One guy I know from high school always shows his contempt for the sharpness of a folder, by partly opening the blade and then pushing it open by laying his thumb on the edge directly. This is rather irritating to a lot of knife owners as he never seems to get cut! (they'd say be careful it's very sharp and he'd push the blade right open with his thumb as if to say NO IT'S NOT!)
So, fed up with his showing off this other guy gets a lock-back Spyderco Manix and strops it on leather till it's sharper than new. Hands it to the thumb-opener and watches as he neatly splits his thumb open. Needless to say that broke him of pushing a blade open on its edge.

I let a friend take a look at the blades on a new Victorinox RS. I warned him 'Be careful, it's sharp.' Two minutes later, he smirked and said, 'That's not sharp.' He ran a thumb down the serrated blade. He left a trail of blood all the way down the hall, to the men's rest room. He never even wanted to touch one of my knives again.

Have to add another one, unfortunately...

A few minutes ago, an open Victorinox Soldier was dropped blade-first on a bare foot. It's bandaged up, and she's anticipating a Christmas Eve with no shoes.

Have I ever cut myself with my knife ... oh yea! ...
Has someone else ever cut themself with my knife ... oh yea! ...
Have I ever cut a hairless spitting Hungarian tree weasel with my knife ... no ...

My wife has cut fingers in the past (But has since learned better), and a couple of friends at work. It seems like everytime I tell someone a knife is sharp, they want to see for themselves, usually on a finger.

Thats one of the reasons that I don`t let other people use my knife.
Yeah, me too. Either they're going to cut themselves, or damage the blade.
If they're not smart enough to carry their own knife, they're probably not smart enough to use it properly, either.

My girlfriend and I were drinking one night with some friends and I had a new Massad Ayoob Razorback(by MOD) on my belt. She says:"Whats this?", grabs the knife, yanks on it and in a split second it snaps out of the Kydex and comes across her off hand pinky finger....resulting in a quick drive to the hospital for 6 stitches. :( Needless to say, she was a little wary of my knives(and my love for them) from then on.

I had a friend of mine cut his fingers with a new kukri I got as a present (not a user I guess... it just looks good on a shelve). It had a mirror finish and I guess that so much buffering left it shaving sharp.

Long long ago another friend of mine (a girls this time) while she was fixing supper during a camp out she borrowed an Aitor Gran Capitan folder from me. Two minutes later she had a finger split open. We couldn't stich it up because didn't have the propper gear but did ok with some Stery Strips. She didn't borrow a knife from me after that.

The same people you shouldn't allow to use a sharp knife will begin voting soon, and with similar results.

the scum bag thief that tried to rob me ten years ago at the ATM go cut really bad on his arm, after i sidestepped his attack and spyderco'ed him thru his leather jacket. He could'nt believe it, could believe someone would fight back and maybe cut him. His qoute to the police: "dude cut me!!! ****** dude cut me!!!" Police: "yes, you tried to assault and rob him, he defended himself". Dude: " Yea but he cut me!!!!, he ****ing cut me!!!!" Police: "shut up, its a scratch, here is a bandage. You had it coming"

I did'nt get charged, they just asked me questions. The bank machine video spoke volumes as to the attack on me, as did the witnesses.

I will never forget the sudden change in the look of his face. It went from drugged up aggression to confusion, then pain , then shock as he realized something was wrong.

Most of my friends know to ASK me to borrow my knives, several have had minor mishaps. They seem to be REALLY scared of sharp knives, whereas i personally am scared of dull knives....
